Suspected DUI Accident Near Merced County
I’m Ed Smith, a Merced auto accident attorney. A woman was driving her vehicle in Merced County on the night of Thursday, March 22, 2018. Authorities suspect that the woman was driving under the influence (DUI) after an auto accident that resulted in her hospitalization.
What Happened?
A 30-year-old Soledad woman was driving her 2005 Chrysler Pacifica eastbound along Highway 152 in the vicinity of the Rock Bridge at approximately 9:00 pm. The Chrysler allegedly crashed into a 2007 Ford Fusion operated by a 19-year-old resident of San Jose. Additional information regarding the accident was not immediately available, however, officials reported that both vehicles sustained front-end damage as a result of the collision.
Nature of Injuries
Emergency personnel arrived at the scene to assist. Paramedics transported the Chrysler driver to the Memorial Medical Center in Modesto for treatment of a femur fracture. It is unknown whether the Ford driver was hospitalized for their injuries following the accident.
What Caused the Accident?
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the auto accident may have been caused by DUI on the part of the Chrysler driver. However, the exact cause has not yet been determined due to an ongoing investigation.
Merced County DUI Statistics
The California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) indicated in a 2015 report that 1,802 injuries and death were caused by motor vehicle collisions in Merced County. Of that number, approximately 286 of those accidents involved alcohol. The age group including 21 to 34-year-old drivers had the highest rate of DUI with 91 compared to underage drinking with 16.
