Fatal Antioch Accident Kills Teenager

On Sunday, February 16, 2020, a fatal Antioch accident tragically cost an 18-year-old woman her life. The identity of the decedent is currently being withheld by the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office. In addition to the decedent, two other individuals suffered injuries as a result of the accident, both suffering major injuries. The two injured individuals were identified as two men aged 19 and 20 years old. Medical officials indicated that the two young men were expected to survive their injuries.

Crash Information

Antioch Police Department (APD) reports indicated that the accident involved one vehicle and took place in the afternoon in the southwestern quadrant of Antioch. The accident happened just before 4:30 p.m. on James Donlon Boulevard close to the intersection of Hummingbird Drive. Preliminary investigations conducted by police indicated that the accident may have been partly the result of excessive speed. Police stated that the vehicle, a black sports car, sustained extreme damage after crashing into a tree while driving west. Further details about the events leading up to the crash have not yet been reported.

Response

APD and personnel from the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District arrived at the crash scene shortly after it took place. Responders indicated that they found the 18-year-old woman had been ejected from the vehicle during the crash. She was tragically pronounced deceased on-site.

The driver and a second passenger were found trapped inside of the wrecked car. Firefighters used heavy machinery to extricate them from the wreckage before transporting them to local hospitals for emergency care.

Investigation

Police say that they are still actively investigating possible causes of the crash. Officers have asked that anybody with information about the incident get in touch with APD’s Calvin Prieto by calling (925) 779-6900, extension 85936.

Collisions like this one are often caused by multiple factors, many of which can’t be controlled by the drivers involved. Some accidents are not even caused by the driver. Sometimes a phantom vehicle (hit and run driver) may have caused the crash. Other times a defective auto product (faulty car roof) or dangerous roadway design may have contributed to the accident. This is why it is so important to have a thorough investigation performed.

Recovering After a Fatal Accident

Losing a person you care about is a tragedy, and families often feel totally overwhelmed after hearing the news of a fatal crash. Most people go through an intense process of grieving and need to take time away from their regular life in order to focus on healing. During this difficult time, it’s important to take care of yourself and to seek support from your community and loved ones.

However, negligent parties often aren’t facing the same emotional issues and are quick to begin building a defense against financial liability. For this reason, it’s very important to get in touch with a wrongful death lawyer as soon as you can. If your lawyer can begin working on your case early on, they will be more able to ensure you and your family receive the full amount of compensation that you deserve for your financial and personal losses.
