Three Killed in Walnut Creek Accident
On Tuesday, August 25, three people, including a teenager from Fairfield, lost their lives during a car accident that took place in Walnut Creek. The names of the decedents are currently being withheld by county authorities. However, California Highway Patrol (CHP) indicated that the decedents included an 18-year-old Fairfield woman as well as another 18-year-old female and a 47-year-old man from Oakland. The cause of the crash remains under investigation at this time.
Crash Details
The collision took place at 10:40 p.m. on Highway I-680 at the exit for North Main Street. According to information from CHP, the Fairfield woman had been driving a Pontiac Grand Prix on the highway when she apparently lost control of the vehicle. The Pontiac eventually drove off of the tight roundabout exit for North Main Street and collided head-on with a nearby tree. The collision reportedly caused the vehicle to catch fire. No other vehicles were reported to have been involved in this crash.
Responders reaching the collision site discovered that the vehicle had been fully engulfed in flames. Tragically, all three occupants of the Pontiac were pronounced deceased on-site.
Investigation
As Contra Costa CHP officers continue to investigate the accident, no likely causal factors have been mentioned. Solo-vehicle car accidents happen frequently and can be caused by a number of common factors, including non-driver causes like defective car parts or hazardous road conditions.
Additionally, fatal car accidents are often very hard for police to investigate properly. Because officers cannot interview the involved parties about what happened, it’s possible that investigators will not uncover important evidence. In turn, this can prevent families of decedents from obtaining fair compensation from at-fault parties. Because of this, it’s important to have a lawyer use their resources and skills to personally investigate the accident.
Wrongful Death Damages
Families who have suddenly lost somebody that they love often experience intense grief. In many cases, grieving individuals feel completely overwhelmed and unable to keep up with their normal lives while they process their emotions. This is completely understandable, and it’s very important that people do what they can to heal following such a traumatic event. Often, grieving individuals can find comfort by seeking support from their families, friend groups, and communities.
However, fatal accidents can also cause financial issues. Our loved ones often contribute an enormous amount of value to our lives and losing them can mean losing income and/or valuable services. In many cases, such a sudden loss leaves families in a difficult financial situation.
Fortunately, it is possible to seek compensation for these losses through personal injury claims. By working with a compassionate, experienced attorney, families are often able to obtain payments for the above damages as well as funeral expenses, personal suffering, and more.
