Tesla Model 3 Subscription Service Expands to Sacramento

If you’ve always wanted to drive a Tesla but can’t afford to buy one, here’s your chance. California-based company Autonomy is offering its Tesla Model 3 electric vehicles to customers through a subscription-based program. Autonomy CEO and founder Scott Painter said the goal of the subscription is to lower the cost of owning an electric car.

Autonomy started its Tesla EV subscription service to Southern California drivers over a year ago with a fleet of Model 3s and plans to bring its service to Sacramento in the next couple of weeks.

How Does the Subscription Service Work?

You can reserve a Tesla Model 3 exclusively through the new Autonomy EV subscription app program, and it only takes 10 minutes to do so.

The Tesla Model 3 vehicle subscription program starts with a three-month minimum contract and then goes to a month-to-month term afterward. You just need to provide your driver’s license and a credit card to get started. Then select the vehicle color and schedule a delivery or pickup date.

Reservations can be made at Autonomy.com and a smartphone app. You can manage your entire vehicle subscription through the app on your phone.

The Cost of the Subscription Service

Although the subscription process is easy, the service is not cheap. The fee ranges from $550 a month with a $5,500 start fee to $1,000 a month with a $1000 start fee. You can return the car after three months, but the start fee is not refundable.

Similar to a lease, car registration, routine maintenance, and roadside assistance are included in the subscription. However, car insurance is not covered. Drivers are limited to 1,000 miles a month, and if you go over the limit, it will cost 25 cents per mile.

Autonomy requires a $500 security deposit fee and is fully refundable when the car is returned. There is also a $100 deposit fee to secure the reservation, which is applied to the security deposit at activation.

Keep in mind that this is not a lease or an auto loan. Autonomy owns the vehicle, and you are just borrowing it.

Charging Stations to Consider

Tesla Model 3 vehicles will need to be charged regularly to operate, and there is an additional cost to install a home charger. However, most Autonomy’s current subscribers drive their vehicles to nearby supercharging stations instead of investing in a charger. Several Tesla superchargers are available in the Sacramento, Foothills, and Central Valley area.

Who Can Benefit from the Telsa Model 3 Subscription Service?

The service offers drivers the easiest, fastest, and cheapest way to get a Tesla and is considered the first-of-its-kind vehicle subscription program for the Tesla Model 3. However, an EV subscription is not for everyone. It is best suited for specific target groups.

People who can benefit from this subscription service are college students, those in the military, and those who are on a work assignment in another city and know they will be there for several months.

Although this kind of service is a good idea for those target audiences, potential customers should consider the cost of insurance and other expenses associated with the subscription before signing up.

Subscriptions are currently available only in California. Autonomy plans to expand to other large US markets as more people want to test drive the EV life.
