A Famous Location for Myths and Legends
The City of Mount Shasta is 60 miles north of Redding next to Interstate 5, near the Oregon border. With pine-covered mountains surrounding the valley, the city’s most famous landmark is the mysterious snowy volcanic peak of Mt. Shasta, which towers over 14,000 feet.
There are many tourist hotspots in Northern California, but few are as magnificent as Mt. Shasta. As the second-highest volcano in the United States, Mt. Shasta is a prominent landscape along the Siskiyou Trail. This arc runs all the way from northern California to Canada.
Known for its picturesque mountain terrain, Mt. Shasta draws visitors from all over the country. Every year, thousands of people hike, climb, camp, and enjoy the beauty that this mountain has to offer.
The Mysterious Mount Shasta
Scientists at the California Volcano Observatory believe something otherworldly and strange about the City of Mount Shasta. The town has a complicated and rich history, and the mountain is visually powerful. They said combining these qualities makes it a profound place for many people.
Native Americans considered Mt. Shasta a hallowed place. They believe the mountain was the sacred center of the universe and is inhabited by a spirit chief who came from the heavens.
Multiple UFO Sightings Near Mt. Shasta
Mt. Shasta has been a popular area for UFO sightings. One of the most recent sightings was photographed in 2019. Some of the sightings have been explained by weather phenomena. The mountain is so tall that it creates its own microclimate.
The US Forest Service said humid air masses rising up the side of the mountain can create lenticular clouds that might look like a spacecraft. However, many UFO believers say this doesn’t explain some of the quick-moving objects and lights that have been seen floating around the area.
Lost City Under the Rocks
Another famous legend surrounding Mt. Shasta is the lost ancient city beneath the volcano. Some locals say a complex system of tunnels under the volcano leads to the lost city home to the Lemurian civilization.
According to legend, the Lemurians had a conflict with the people of Atlantis over ideology, which led to a thermonuclear war. When the battle was over, the surviving Lemurians fled below the rocks where they would remain safe.
Some people believe the Lemurians are still alive and living under the volcano. They occasionally approached the Earth’s surface and created lenticular clouds to hide their precious goods. The Lemurians are believed to be highly evolved humans who are seven feet tall with long flowing hair. The most recent sightings of the Lemurians are believed to have been in the 1940s.
Missing People and Strange Disappearances
Perhaps there’s a more sinister side to Mt. Shasta that some say accounted for more than its fair share of missing person cases.
The first known case occurred in 1934 when a man named JC Brown was due to go on an adventure to find a treasure-filled cave. He was to lead an 80-member team but failed to show up on the day of the trip and was never seen again.
Another story is of a three-year-old boy who went missing in the mountain and was found wandering around five hours later. The boy said he was taken into a cave by strange beings that were not human. They wanted to study him but became angry and eventually let him go.
In May 1999, an experienced outdoorsman disappeared from the mountain during a climbing trip. Search teams did not find any trace of him. Neither his body nor his belongings ever turned up.
More recently, a 28-year-old San Francisco man went missing in May 2021 while visiting the mountain. He seemed to have vanished without a trace.
Explaining the Unexplained
Mt. Shasta has long been theorized as one of the world’s sacred sites that can exert massive force on people and other living things. Like the pyramids in Egypt, Stonehenge in Britain, and Machu Picchu in Peru, these sites are considered portals to different dimensions. Believers are fascinated with these power spots, locations of concentrated energy that can directly affect our consciousness.
It might be far-fetched to think of these sites as a portal to another dimension, but in 2013, NASA-funded research discovered the existence of X-points, the hidden portals in Earth’s magnetic field. Another study found that these portals open and close high above the atmosphere several times daily.
Other theories surrounding Mt. Shasta involve aliens who could use the area as a base when they visit our planet.
A more plausible explanation is that the mountain is a fairly active volcano, with lava activity as recent as the summer of 2021. This led some people to suggest that the mysterious phenomena and sightings could be due to volcanic gases causing hallucinations.
No matter what people believe, we can all agree that Mt. Shasta certainly has an aura about it. We may never find the truth, but this remains to be seen as with so many other mysterious places.
