Three Children Injured In Humboldt ATV Crash
According to reports from the California Highway Patrol (CHP), three children all suffered serious injuries during a Humboldt ATV crash that took place on Tuesday, August 3, 2021. The accident took place on a beach outside of the rural community of Shelter Cove. Updates on the conditions of the injured children have not been made available.
Crash Information
CHP reports that the accident happened at night near Bucks Creek. The Bureau of Land Management received a call from an emergency call box on Black Sands Beach reporting that multiple children had suffered burn injuries. CHP states that the ATV was involved in a traffic collision, causing the ATV’s battery to explode.
Response
Officers explained that Black Sands Beach does not have access roads. Initially, helicopters were called to the scene but were unable to land on the beach due to thick fog. To reach the injured children, Humboldt County Firefighters responded to the scene on ATVs, picking up the children and transporting them to a location where the helicopters could land. According to reports, a five-year-old child was flown to the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento while his two siblings, ages two and three, were flown via a separate helicopter to the St. Joseph’s Hospital in Eureka. All three reportedly suffered serious trauma.
Investigation
Official investigations into the causes of this accident are ongoing. Often, accidents like this one occur due to things outside of the control of the involved driver(s). In these cases, third parties often share financial responsibility for the accident. One common example of an accident factor for which a third party is responsible is auto product defects that make driving a vehicle inherently dangerous.
Recovering from Burn Injuries
Burn injuries are some of the most difficult injuries to recover from. Because burns destroy so much tissue, they are often very painful, and recovering can take a long time, frequently involving surgeries, physical therapy, and other medical procedures. While many burn care treatments are highly effective, proper medical care for burn injuries can be expensive, leaving families in a difficult financial situation.
Thankfully, families can often obtain compensation to cover the costs associated with accident injuries by seeking help from a personal injury lawyer. By filing a claim, it’s possible to hold at-fault parties and insurance companies financially responsible for medical bills, personal suffering, and more.
