Tractor-Trailer Overturns in Fairfield
Officers of Solano area California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that a trucking accident took place on a local highway on Thursday, February 21, 2019. The accident involved a big-rig truck and reportedly blocked traffic for hours during the early afternoon commute times. Thankfully, CHP has reported that nobody suffered injuries during this accident and that no additional vehicles were involved in the collision. The suspected causes of the crash have not been reported by investigators. While nobody was harmed during this crash, trucking accidents can be very dangerous and this collision serves as a reminder of how highway trucking accidents can happen at any time.
Crash Details
CHP stated that the accident happened at about 3:07 p.m. A yellow-colored tractor-trailer was traveling east on Highway Interstate 80 to the east of the Cherry Glen Road exit between the northern edge of Fairfield and the southwestern side of Vacaville. For unknown reasons, the truck driver lost control of his vehicle, and the big-rig flipped over. The truck had been hauling several crushed vehicles, which were spilled onto the roadway. Additionally, the crash took place on a straight section of highway, so navigating a curve was not a factor in the crash.
Avoiding Trucking Accidents
Big-rigs are some of the largest vehicles on the road and can weigh several tons even without cargo. This means that they can easily cause major damages when they are involved in accidents. The most severe injuries in trucking accidents are usually suffered by passengers of smaller vehicles, so knowing how to stay safe while driving near big-rigs is important. Some of the best ways to stay safe when driving near large trucks include:
- Avoid Blind Spots – Trucks have large blind spots, especially near the sides of their trailers. Drivers of smaller vehicles should do their best to stay out of these areas. Truck drivers who don’t see vehicles in their blind spot can easily cause a crash by changing lanes or making a turn.
- Allow Ample Space – Because trucks are so massive, they can be difficult to maneuver. Trucks cannot easily swerve away from obstacles in the road, and take much longer to come to a stop than other vehicles. For this reason, it is important to allow plenty of room between your vehicle and big-rigs, especially when traveling at highway speeds.
- Be Alert – You should always keep your focus on the road. However, because trucks are liable to cause major damage in the event of a crash, it is best to practice extra caution when sharing the road with one.
Trucking Accidents and Liability
Commercial trucks are usually owned by a holding company that operates a whole fleet of shipping vehicles. These companies are aware of the dangers that big-rigs pose to other drivers and are almost always ready to begin dealing with accidents right away. Companies will usually send out a legal team directly after accidents take place in order to conduct their own investigations and disclaim financial responsibility. Because of this, it can be vital to have the help of a Fairfield truck accident lawyer right away. If an attorney can begin working on your case immediately, they can more effectively investigate, negotiate, and argue your case.
