Teenager Killed in Tracy Collision
California Highway Patrol (CHP) officials reported that a 17-year-old girl passed away on the morning of Thursday, June 27, 2019, during an auto accident in an unincorporated area of Tracy. The collision reportedly involved two vehicles and happened on a local highway. Additionally, information from officers indicates that two more people were left with major trauma as a result of the collision. I’d like to offer my sympathy to the friends and family of the girl who tragically lost her life because of this terrible accident.
Crash Details
According to police, the collision happened at about 11:00 a.m. on Highway 205 just east of the Banta Road intersection. CHP officer Joe Whitlock stated that an 18-year-old woman had been driving in a 2008 Toyota Camry heading east on 205. Meanwhile, a 66-year-old man was traveling in a 1997 Saturn westbound on the same road, approaching the Banta Road intersection. For reasons that are currently unknown, the woman allegedly lost control of her Camry and drifted over the highway median, eventually entering the incorrect side of the road. As the Camry entered the westbound lane of the highway, it drove into the path of the Saturn. The two vehicles collided into each other head-on.
Response
Responders were immediately sent to the crash location. When they arrived, medical officials found that all three people involved in the accident had been severely injured. Tragically, CHP stated that the passenger of the Camry lost her life upon impact with the other vehicle. Both vehicle drivers were determined to have suffered major injuries and were rushed to an area hospital to be given emergency medical attention. Additionally, CHP stated that all parties had been wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.
Investigation
As police continue to investigate this accident, no suspected factors have been mentioned in any reports from CHP. Crashes like this one sometimes involve causes that are outside of motorists’ control, such as defective vehicle parts, objects in the roadway, sudden medical emergency.
Contacting an Attorney
The period of time following a fatal accident is often very difficult for the families of decedents. Learning that a person you care about has passed away can leave people feeling completely overwhelmed by feelings of grief and taking care of the demands of daily life can seem impossible. It’s vital that families have time and space to process their emotions and learn how to cope with their loss. However, it is also important to reach out to a Tracy wrongful death lawyer as soon as you have the opportunity.
Usually, parties that may be liable to pay for damages in an accident will start building a legal defense right away. Contacting a lawyer early on can prevent these parties from minimizing their responsibility by controlling investigation and obscuring evidence. While most wrongful death claims can be filed up to two years after an accident takes place, some, such as those involving government entities, need to be filed within six months. To learn more about the process of claiming fair compensation for wrongful death damages, reach out to an experienced lawyer.
