Man Killed in Tracy Motorcycle Accident

A tragic crash happened in the Patterson area. Sadly, a man from Tracy passed away while riding his motorcycle.

What Happened?

Fifty-five-year-old Arthur D. Martinez was riding on his 2015 Yamaha FZ-09 on the afternoon of Saturday, September 3, 2016. Martinez was commuting out of the Del Puerto Canyon when he somehow drove his motorcycle off the roadway and into an embankment. A driver passing by the scene reported the accident at approximately 3:16 pm to 9-1-1 dispatchers. Medical personnel arrived shortly thereafter and discovered that Martinez had passed away due to the grave nature of his injuries.

California Highway Patrol Reports

The California Highway Patrol reports that Martinez was riding at approximately 35 to 40 miles per hour. Authorities also stated that Martinez made an unsafe turning movement. Eric Parsons, an officer from CHP, indicated that the route for Del Puerto Canyon to the south Bay area and through the foothills is a popular passageway for motorcyclists. Officers don’t believe drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash.

Motorcycle Safety Tips

The California Department of Motor Vehicles advises all motorcyclists to be careful on the roadway. Motorcyclists are encouraged to take the following safety precautions:

  • Motorcyclists should endeavor to engage in the best possible defensive driving techniques. This includes being aware of your surroundings, remaining alert while riding, and react promptly to avoid an accident.
  • Do not follow too closely behind other motorists. Leave plenty of space between you and the vehicle in front of you.
  • Always merge with the flow of traffic. Do not enter the roadway if doing so may pose a hazard to oncoming motorists.
  • Never drive if you are feeling tired. Always pull over to take a break at a rest stop or other safe area.
  • Always perform maintenance checks on your bike to make sure it is fully functional such as checking the fluids, brakes, and lights.
