Vehicles Collide at the Broadway On-Ramp in Sacramento
A traffic accident involving three vehicles that caused minor injuries occurred on the South Sacramento Freeway on August 19. The collision was reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) at around 3:54 p.m. on State Route 99 at the Broadway on-ramp. It involved a Toyota Yaris, Jeep and Honda sedan. According to the incident report, only minor injuries were suffered by those involved in the collision.
A Multiple-Vehicle Traffic Accident Can Cause More Injuries
Accidents involving multiple vehicles can cause serious injuries because a car or light truck can be struck more than once. In addition, because the airbags deploy during the impact, they can then deflate, which leaves those inside the vehicle subject to more injuries. Some of the types of injuries someone can suffer include:
- Bone fractures are common in a traffic accident, especially if the people inside realize it’s going to happen and try to brace themselves for the impact. Knees, legs, wrists, and arms are commonly broken due to bracing or from striking the interior of the vehicle.
- Abdominal injuries are often caused by seat restraints or airbags. The types of injuries may range from broken ribs to internal bleeding or organ damage.
- Traumatic brain injuries may range from concussion, which usually heals on its own, to hemorrhage, a fractured skull, and more. More serious brain injuries can mean lengthy hospitalization and surgeries and can affect the individual’s cognitive function and ability to live their lives as before.
- Back and spinal cord trauma can cause life-long problems. In the back, muscles, tendons, and ligaments can tear. Trauma to the spinal cord can mean a ruptured disc. However, spinal cord damage can also cause temporary or permanent paralysis, necessitating a lifetime of care.
- Scarring and disfigurement occur as a result of some traffic accidents. Because these types of damages are usually not covered by insurance, the injured party has to recover compensation from the at-fault party to pay for reconstructive surgeries.
Conducting an Investigation Into the Cause of a Traffic Accident
Since more than one driver might be at fault for a traffic accident, such as by speeding, distracted driving or tailgating, injury lawyers conduct an investigation into the cause. This allows their client to obtain fair compensation for their traffic accident medical expenses, lost wages and for their pain and suffering. Some of the areas in which an investigation is conducted include:
- The traffic accident report filed by the police is checked to ensure its accuracy because errors could affect the claim.
- Witnesses to the collision are interviewed to understand what they saw. Often, a witness captured the traffic accident on their cell phone, which provides compelling evidence.
- Area traffic surveillance cameras are checked to see if the accident was captured as it happened. This type of evidence is accepted in civil courts and by insurance companies.
- The driving records of those involved in the accident are checked to see if they have been involved in previous accidents or have traffic infractions.
- Forensic reconstruction of the accident is performed, which shows how the collision occurred and can point toward which driver was at fault.
When the evidence is compiled, our injury attorneys go to work to prepare a case that supports our client’s compensation claim.
