Ice Cream Van Involved in Accident near El Camino Avenue
A traffic collision was reported between two vehicles that caused a possible injury in Sacramento on August 30. The crash happened just before 9:00 a.m. along eastbound I-80 just west of El Camino Avenue and involved a white sports convertible and an Icee van. The incident report filed by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) said the passenger vehicle ended up in the center divider, while the van was on the right-hand side.
Cause of Traffic Collision on I-80 to Be Determined
One possible injury was reported, but no additional data was forthcoming. Investigators with the CHP are working to determine which driver was at fault for the collision and how it occurred.
Interstate Traffic Collision
On high-speed roads such as I-80, accidents can be catastrophic. This is because the vehicles are moving at a high speed when impact takes place. Another problem is the vehicles are close to one another, and a crash in one lane can lead to a collision in another. Even if a driver is alert to the possibility of an accident up ahead, there is little doubt that the motorist would not be able to get out of the way in time. This is particularly true during rush hour.
Reasons for Traffic Accidents
Some of the most common reasons traffic accidents occur are:
- Distraction: This driver behavior occurs when the motorist focuses on something other than the road. Distracted driving is rapidly becoming the major reason for traffic accidents.
- Drunk drivers: Drivers who are inebriated are responsible for many traffic accidents. They lack the cognitive ability to drive safely.
- Fatigued drivers: Motorists who are too tired to drive are quickly becoming a problem. It only takes a few seconds to travel the length of two football fields. If you are texting, the average time to answer or read an average text is exactly this distance.
- Reckless drivers: Some motorists take chances that destroy roadway safety. This includes speeding, moving in and out of lanes, and tailgating. Speeding is dangerous since a driver will lose control of their car the faster they go, making it impossible to avoid a traffic collision. Tailgating leads to rear-end crashes, which can cause significant injury.
Investigating a Traffic Collision
Our investigators are sent to the scene of an accident to obtain proof of negligence. This is an important step since without proving that another person was negligent for your damages, a case will not be allowed to proceed. They interview witnesses, obtain surveillance camera video footage and use traffic collision reconstruction to prove liability. Armed with this proof, our attorneys can build a strong case for our clients.
