Stockton Boulevard Off-Ramp Traffic Stopped by Multiple-Vehicle Accident
A traffic injury was reported in Sacramento on March 1 in a multiple-vehicle crash on a highway off-ramp. The crash happened at around 4:43 in the afternoon along westbound U.S. 50 on the off-ramp for Stockton Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) incident report. Along with an AT&T truck, it involved a Prius, two Hondas, and an additional vehicle. The Prius sustained moderate front and rear-end damage.
One Traffic Injury Reported in Highway Exit Ramp Accident
One individual involved in the collision complained of chest pain after the crash. Although responders with the Sacramento Fire Department arrived to assess injuries, no report was released on whether that patient was treated at the scene or taken to a nearby hospital. An investigation into what caused the traffic injury accident is being handled by the CHP.
Traffic Injury Following a Multiple-Vehicle Collision
Multiple-vehicle collisions are common along our nation’s highways due to the higher speeds and close proximity of the cars and trucks. However, a traffic injury that involves more than two vehicles can be more difficult to show which driver/drivers were at fault. The at-fault motorists are the ones who can be held responsible for accident injuries, lost wages, and the pain and suffering experienced by the injured person.
Types of Negligence in a Traffic Injury Accident
Most traffic accidents involve negligence by a motorist. Some of the types of negligence that can be responsible include:
- Distracted driving: This is the number one reason for a traffic accident. Motorists still text and talk on a cell phone, even though they are only allowed to use hands-free phones in vehicles in California. Drivers also exhibit other areas of distraction such as eating while driving, checking their GPS, and changing the radio station. Any activity that takes the driver’s hands off the wheel and eyes off the road can cause an accident with a traffic injury in just a few seconds.
- Drunk or drugged driving: Despite efforts to lower the number of intoxicated drivers on the roads, it is still a continuing problem. A driver under the influence of alcohol or drugs has poor judgment, problems calculating distances from other vehicles and tracking with their eyes, as well as slowed reflexes.
- Fatigue: A driver who changes shifts at work, is on certain medications, or has untreated sleep apnea can cause a collision resulting in a traffic injury. In addition, those who simply stay up too late the night before can be negligent by causing an accident.
- Government negligence: Some accidents occur due to negligence by the government entity in charge of maintenance. These errors can include debris in the roadway, missing or badly placed signage, and entrance and exit ramps that are poorly designed.
A Personal Injury Lawyer Can Help
Finding out how the accident happened and who was at fault is a primary part of what a personal injury lawyer does. By holding those who were responsible for the collision financially accountable, the injured party can recover with the peace of mind of knowing their expenses will be covered.
