Traumatic Injuries in Pittsburg Car Accident

What Happened?
On 18 May, a single silver sedan crashed into a tree on Leland Road. The accident occurred just east of Railroad Avenue. Witnesses report that the vehicle lost control shortly after the intersection at which time the vehicle rolled and came to rest against a tree.
Witnesses then reported that the accident knocked the tree over, causing the tree to land on the vehicle. This in turn trapped at least one passenger. Preliminary reports indicate that the car contained a driver and two passengers.
About the Injured Parties
The details of the accident are still emerging, but initial communications from the scene of the accident reveal that there were three patients. One of these patients was transported to a hospital via helicopter while the other two were transported via ambulance.
Although the extent of the three patients’ injuries are unknown, the condition of the victim transported by helicopter was likely serious.
Injuries Suffered in the Accident
There is no information available publicly regarding the injuries sustained in the accident. Common injuries we have seen in similar accidents as Pittsburg car accident lawyers, though, include severe internal injuries. This can include chest trauma that blocks airways and abdominal trauma. Many victims of rollover accidents also experience head trauma and injuries to their back and/or neck.
About the Emergency Response
The Pittsburg Police Department and the Contra Costa County Fire Department both responded to the accident. The Fire Department had to request additional resources to extricate at least one of the victims. American Medical Response (AMR) ambulances also responded to the accident.
Cause of the Accident
The authorities have not released an official cause of the accident at this time. Many locals, however, speculate that speed played a role in the accident. Speeding is common on Leland Road, although that reveals a potential second cause of the accident.
About Leland Road
This was one of several accidents on Leland Road in 2017 alone, in large part due to the high volume of commute traffic. Leland Road is a residential street with two lanes in both directions through both Antioch and Pittsburg.
However, many Central Valley to Bay Area commuters use Leland Road to bypass gridlocked traffic on Highway 4. This puts thousands of vehicles on a twisty road surrounded by homes every day. Many of these drivers then speed along the road with a 35 mile per hour speed limit in many places, creating a great hazard for local residents.
Pittsburg Car Accidents
Pittsburg in general is prone to car accidents because of the high volume of commuters. While nearly 70,000 people live in Pittsburg, five times that number commute through Pittsburg. This frequently causes accidents. For example, on the same day as this accident at nearly the same time, another vehicle crashed on Highway 4. No one was seriously injured in that accident, but it shows the dangers of Pittsburg traffic.
