Triple-Vehicle Crash in Napa County Harms Four People
On Friday, July 17, 2020, a triple-vehicle crash in Napa County left a total of four people with injuries. The accident reportedly involved a motorcycle as well as two passenger vehicles, including an SUV. Three injured parties reportedly sustained serious trauma and were hospitalized. The fourth party was left with less serious injuries and was treated at the accident scene. The cause of the accident remains under California Highway Patrol (CHP) investigation at this time.
Collision Information
CHP records show that the crash happened at about 6:11 p.m. on Highway 221. Reportedly, a 69-year-old man from San Ramon was driving a 2017 Harley Davidson Road Glide north on the highway with a 64-year-old woman as his passenger. Police say that, for unknown reasons, the motorcycle entered the intersection located at Magnolia drive against a red light. As the motorcycle was turning onto Magnolia Drive, it was struck by a southbound 2001 Volkswagen GTI driven by a 19-year-old Napa resident.
As a result of the impact, both the motorcyclist and his passenger were thrown from the bike. Additionally, the GTI was pushed into the path of a southbound 2017 Ford Explorer, causing a second collision between the two vehicles.
Response
Responders reaching the crash location found that the motorcyclist, motorcycle passenger, and Ford driver had all suffered serious injuries. All three were transported to the nearby Queen of the Valley Hospital. According to reports, the motorcyclist sustained a fractured arm and facial lacerations while the passenger sustained ribcage injuries as well as a fractured foot. The GTI driver was discovered with facial lacerations and received treatment on-site.
Investigation
CHP reports that they have officers actively investigating what could have caused this crash. With accidents like this one, it isn’t uncommon for there to be more than one major causal factor. Furthermore, many car accident factors like defective auto parts and roadway damage can’t be controlled by drivers.
