Fatal Triple Vehicle Crash Near Redding
On Saturday, December 21, 2019, a triple vehicle crash near Redding cost one person their life. The accident happened in the late morning on Highway 44 and left two additional individuals with injuries requiring hospital care. The identity of the decedent is being withheld by Shasta County Sheriff’s Department officials while they are in the process of notifying the person’s family. According to reports, the accident is under an active California Highway Patrol (CHP) investigation.
Crash Details
The collision happened at around 10:23 a.m. on the westbound side of Highway 44 near Stillwater Road east of Redding. CHP stated that a gray 2018 Subaru Forester was heading east on the highway at a speed of about 65 miles per hour. For unknown reasons, the Subaru drifted left and crossed into the westbound side of the highway. As it entered oncoming traffic, the Subaru collided head-on with a white 2013 Chevrolet Silverado that had been traveling at around 55 miles per hour.
The initial impact caused the Silverado to roll over while the Subaru continued east in the westbound lane, where it collided head-on with a third vehicle, a blue 2005 Audi S4. No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
Response
Emergency personnel arriving at the collision scene discovered the Audi driver with critical trauma. Sadly, the driver lost their life on-scene. Both the Subaru and Chevrolet drivers were hospitalized at the Mercy Medical Center for what officials reported were moderate injuries.
Investigation
As officers are looking into what may have caused this crash, CHP has stated that they do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors.
