What You Should Know About Fatal Truck Accidents and Wrongful Death Claims

There is nothing more heartbreaking than the unexpected loss of a loved one. When this happens, it can be challenging to know what steps to take in moving forward. If your loved one lost their life in a truck accident because of someone else’s negligence, you may have the right to take legal action through a wrongful death claim. This type of case is an effective measure of obtaining justice by holding the at-fault party financially accountable for their wrongdoing. It may also serve as a message that negligence of any type will not be tolerated in the community.

No amount of money can undo the pain your family has experienced or bring a loved one back. However, financial compensation from a wrongful death truck accident case may ease some of the financial hardship related to the sudden loss of a close relative. This may include costs of medical treatment incurred before death, expenses for funeral and burial services, loss of future financial support if the decedent was the primary provider of the household, lost companionship, and more.

Punitive damages may also be awarded if it is proven that the at-fault party acted egregiously, such as in the case of truck accidents caused by driving under the influence (DUI) and excessive speeding. A Modesto wrongful death lawyer may review the facts and circumstances of the case and help survivors seek the fair compensation they deserve.
