Truck Crash Reported on State Route 99 in Atwater

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported a truck crash on northbound State Route 99 in the Atwater area on the morning of October 8, 2021. The big rig accident took place on SR-99 near the Atwater Boulevard offramp around 7:25 a.m.

Details on the Truck Crash Reported on State Route 99 in Atwater

A press release by CHP traffic officers indicated that a black pickup truck was involved in a single-vehicle accident on northbound Highway 99 and collided with the center divider wall. Moments after the initial crash, a big rig reportedly struck the pickup truck. Authorities reported a third traffic collision that occurred near the first two that involved a silver Nissan Altima and a van.

Crews with Riggs Ambulance Service were called to the scene of the truck accident to assist those involved. It is unknown whether the second incident required the assistance of first responders. The number of injured parties and additional information on the sequence of events leading up to both crashes was not immediately available.

What You Should Know About Tractor-Trailer Accident Cases

Big rigs are essential to commerce in California and across the nation. These vehicles are commonly seen on roads throughout the golden state to transport goods and materials. Tractor-trailers often present unique dangers on roadways because of their overwhelming size and weight. Conversely, truck drivers have a more limited ability to avoid a traffic collision because of the increased stopping distance and reduced visibility.

A passenger vehicle is no match for a large commercial truck as these vehicles alone may weigh a few tons unloaded and up to several times that weight with loads. Occupants in passenger vehicles may suffer a wide array of traumatic injuries and resulting damages because of the wide disparity in size and weight between commercial trucks and cars. This may mean that even a low-speed truck crash may result in significant damage in comparison to a similar collision involving two passenger vehicles.

Truck drivers are subject to various state and federal regulations regarding safety inspections, trucking operations, hours of service (HOS), driver certification requirements, and more. When a truck driver and trucking company fails to uphold these standards, they may be held liable for damages incurred. A thorough investigation of a tractor-trailer collision is essential to uncover evidence of violations of state or federal regulations as it may play a significant role in determining fault. This may be an extensive process in which may require the expertise of an injury lawyer. Watch this video for information on how to find the best lawyer to handle your personal injury claim.
