Trucker Sent to Hospital After Hopland Big-Rig Crash
On Wednesday, March 31, 2021, a truck driver was sent to the hospital after being injured in a Hopland big-rig crash. California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the crash took place on a local highway late at night and involved only one vehicle. While the truck driver was hospitalized, medical officials reported that he was expected to fully recover from his injuries. The accident’s cause is still under CHP investigation at this time.
Crash Information
The crash happened at about 2:45 a.m. on the southbound side of Highway 101 between the small communities of Preston and Pieta south of Hopland. According to reports, a big-rig carrying a load of scrap metal crashed into a metal guardrail in the highway median for unknown reasons and rolled onto its side, blocking both southbound lanes of the highway and spilling metal across the road.
Responders were rushed to the area after it happened and, when they arrived, found that the driver was injured. The man was placed on an ambulance and driven to a nearby hospital to receive care. No other people were inside of the truck at the time of the crash.
According to reports, the highway was at least partially closed until 12:30 p.m. while workers removed all of the dangerous scrap metal from the road.
Investigation
While police are investigating the possible cause of this truck accident, officers haven’t made any reports regarding suspected collision factors. In many cases, truck accidents occur because of something that the trucker has no control over, such as faulty or defective truck parts, poorly maintained roads, and more. Importantly, in these cases, parties other than the trucker may share financial liability for damages caused by the accident.
Truck Accidents Cases Move Quickly
Semi-trucks are massive vehicles and, in California, can weigh up to 80,000 pounds. Because of their sheer size, these trucks can easily cause major injuries in the event of a crash, and the companies that own them are well aware of this risk. To prevent themselves from having to pay for accident damages, trucking companies will often take aggressive action right away in order to begin building a legal defense. In many cases, they will even dispatch a private legal investigation team to the collision scene in order to take their own evidence.
Sadly, such a swift defense can be very effective and may leave injured parties unable to claim payments for their hospital bills or other losses. The best way to combat this defense is to reach out to a Ukiah truck accident lawyer right away so that they can immediately get started working on your case.
