Turlock Auto Accident Injures Two
Two parties suffered serious injuries in an auto accident just southwest of Turlock on February 22, 2019. The incident occurred shortly before 4:00 in the afternoon at the intersection of West Harding Road and South Washington Road. A Delhi man driving a 2010 Toyota Tundra was heading west on Harding Road when he stopped at the intersection. A Newman woman driving a 2012 Honda Civic was traveling north along Washington Road and had the right of way, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). As the Honda approached the intersection, the Toyota entered the intersection in the direct path of the Honda. The Honda driver was unable to avoid a collision and struck the Toyota. Medical personnel responding to the scene transported the two drivers to the Doctors Medical Center for treatment of unspecified injuries described as major. Details on their conditions were not immediately available.
Accident Investigation
Officers from CHP said the car wreck was believed to be caused by driving under the influence. The driver of the Toyota was reportedly placed under arrest for being an unlicensed driver and on suspicion of felony DUI.
Effects of Alcohol Consumption on Driving
Any amount of alcohol in one’s system may slow down the functions of the central nervous system. Since alcohol is considered a depressant, it can alter a driver’s vision, judgment, reaction time and concentration. It can also cause drowsiness and increase the chances of the driver falling asleep at the wheel. Cognitive and coordination skills necessary for processing information are also compromised by alcohol consumption. Motorists who exhibit any of the symptoms discussed above are likely to cause a car accident.
Drunk Driving Accidents
Fault in a drunk driving accident is usually attributed to the impaired driver involved. When the driver does not have insurance or has limited insurance policy limits, this can place the other parties injured in the accident in a difficult financial situation. In these situations, the injured party may seek compensation through their own car insurance policy. This is a possible option so long as he or she has uninsured/underinsured motorist protection. This typically helps pay for subsequent losses from an accident involving an uninsured, underinsured, or hit and run driver. Common Injuries in an Auto Accident
The types of injuries sustained in an auto accident at an intersection depend on the speed traveled by the vehicles involved and area of impact. Head-on collisions often result in chest or abdominal injuries, bone fractures, and head injuries. This is due to the body being forced forward against the safety restraints. A T-bone or broadside collision often results in severe injuries since the sides of the vehicle offer less protection in a crash. Spinal cord injuries, facial trauma, and cervical sprain are common. Rapid back and forth movement in the cervical area often occurs in a rear-end collision. This is due to the motorist being thrown back into the seat. Injuries to the neck are common in this type of car wreck.
