Off-Road Accident Kills Two Involving Holland Road Submerged Vehicle
Two people died, and others were injured in a submerged vehicle accident in Courtland, northeast of Rio Vista, on October 5. The accident happened near Holland and Oxford roads around 4:00 p.m. when the vehicle went off the roadway and down a short embankment into the water, where it overturned. The crash happened at a curve in the road, and tire marks were visible where the vehicle left the roadway.
Two Females Killed and Others Injured in Submerged Vehicle Accident
It was reported by the Solano County California Highway Patrol (CHP) that five females, who were Stockton residents, were riding in the car. Officials have recently identified the decedents as Isabel Diaz Ramirez, age 49, and Yolanda De La Cruz Rivas, age 47. A GoFundMe page has been set up for the families of Ms. Diaz Ramirez and Ms. De La Cruz Rivas to assist with final resting arrangements.
An infant and toddler were also riding in the vehicle, and the baby was taken by air to US Davis Medical Center and reported in critical condition. The toddler and another adult were transported to a hospital. All of those who were in the vehicle are allegedly related.
Investigation Determining Cause of Submerged Vehicle Crash
Solano and Yolo fire crews responded to the accident to remove those inside the vehicle, found upside down in the water. The CHP traffic collision unit is investigating the cause of the accident.
When a Tragedy Occurs
When you’ve been injured or lost a family member in a submerged vehicle, there are instances when compensation can be recovered – when a defect in the auto caused the crash, an obstacle was in the roadway or when the road itself was poorly maintained. In an auto defect, a product liability claim may be placed against the auto manufacturer. Keeping the vehicle intact is important so an automotive engineer can examine it for defects.
Government claims arise when problems with the road lead to a motor vehicle accident, such as upheavals, potholes, soft shoulders and others. However, unlike other personal injury claims, placing one against a government entity for poor roadways has a six-month limit to file, so getting help is recommended.
Assistance From an Injury Lawyer
A personal injury claim may be placed by those who were injured. A family who lost a loved one may file a claim for wrongful death. Although this will not ease your pain or compensate for the loss of a loved one, it can help the family avoid the financial consequences of the collision. Taking advantage of a free consultation with an injury lawyer can tell you whether you can file a claim.
