Two Dead Following Eureka Area Highway Accident
A Eureka area highway accident reportedly caused two people fatal injuries on Wednesday, September 18, 2019. California Highway Patrol (CHP) indicated that the accident involved two vehicles, including an armored truck. In addition to the two decedents, one individual received minor injuries as a result of the incident. Authorities of the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office are withholding the identities of the decedents until their families have been notified. However, reports indicated that both were foreign nationals.
Crash Information
CHP stated that this accident happened at around 11:45 a.m. A Mazda Sedan was driving east on State Route 299 near the rural community of Willow Creek. Officials noted that the roadway was wet at the time and that the vehicle may have been traveling at an unsafe speed. The driver of the Mazda lost control of their vehicle and veered left, entering westbound lanes. After crossing over into oncoming traffic, the Mazda collided head-on with a Chevrolet armored truck.
Upon arriving at the location of the accident, officials determined that both the driver and the passenger of the Mazda had suffered critical injuries. Tragically, both individuals were declared deceased on-site. The driver of the armored truck, who was identified as a Redding man, suffered minor injuries.
Investigation
As police look into possible causes of this crash, officers have stated that they do not believe alcohol or drugs were factors. CHP has asked that anyone who may have information regarding the collision contact their Humboldt office by calling (707) 822-5981.
Should I Call a Lawyer?
When drivers lose their lives during a crash, they are unable to tell police their version of what happened. This can mean that vital information goes undiscovered during an investigation. For this reason, it’s important to call an experienced wrongful death lawyer who can conduct their own investigation into the accident and look for evidence of roadway hazards, faulty car parts, or other important factors. After investigating, your attorney will be able to put together a strong case and negotiate with insurers and negligent parties on your behalf in order to ensure you receive the full amount of compensation you deserve.
What Can Be Recovered?
When people suddenly lose their lives in accidents, their loved ones are often left in a very difficult situation. Not only is coping with grief very difficult, but a death in the family often means losing an important source of personal and financial support. By filing a wrongful death claim, families can frequently recover compensation for a variety of damages that include both economic and personal losses, including lost income, pain and suffering, funeral costs, and more.
