Two Suffer Fatal Trauma in Redding Highway Collision
On Wednesday, March 17, 2021, two people sadly lost their lives after they suffered injuries in a Redding highway accident. Shasta County Sheriff’s Office authorities identified the decedents as a 25-year-old woman and a 40-year-old man, both residents of the nearby city of Anderson. However, county officials are still withholding their names. California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the accident was a solo-vehicle crash and that no other individuals were involved.
Crash Information
The crash happened at about 4:15 a.m. on Highway Interstate 5 to the south of Knighton Road on the very southern edge of Redding. According to CHP, the male decedent was driving a 2006 Toyota southbound toward Anderson, and the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed. For reasons that are still under investigation, the driver apparently lost control of the car, and the vehicle traveled off the highway. After leaving the road, the Toyota crashed directly into a large tree on the western highway shoulder.
Response
The incident was promptly reported to CHP, and dispatchers rushed an accident response team to the area. At the site, first responders discovered the vehicle was seriously damaged and that both occupants had suffered major injuries. Both the driver and passenger were sadly pronounced deceased on-site.
Investigation of Redding Highway Collision
Riverland Drive was reportedly reduced to one-way traffic while responders worked at the site and remained closed during accident scene investigations and wreckage cleanup. At the time of reporting, officers had not released further information about suspected causes of the crash. In many cases, these types of accidents involve more factors than are readily apparent, including non-driver factors like issues with defective auto parts or dangerously damaged pavement.
Private Investigations are Important
When an accident has no survivors, police can have a difficult time fully understanding what took place. Sadly, this might mean that officers won’t notice important evidence while conducting investigations, leaving family members and dependents of the decedents without the ability to claim fair compensation from at-fault parties.
To ensure that a fatal collision receives a thorough investigation that prioritizes you and your loved ones, it is best to call a Redding personal injury lawyer with experience conducting wrongful death case investigations.
