Multiple Car Crashes on Highway 50 During Same Time Period
Three different car crashes close to each other in Rancho Cordova recently ended up with two people hospitalized with moderate injuries. The accident occurred along Highway 50 near Mather Field Road and involved a total of six vehicles, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). Two people were transported to a hospital with moderate trauma, while a third was treated at the scene and released.
Causes of Multiple Car Crashes Close Together on a Highway
Multiple car accidents close together on a highway can be caused by a variety of reasons. Poor visibility due to fog, rain, snow or darkness can make it difficult for drivers to spot other vehicles and objects along the road. An accident attorney can investigate the collision and determine which driver/drivers were negligent. This allows the injured party to file a claim to recover the compensation that they deserve.
Problems Avoiding a Highway Collision
Because of highway speeds, if an accident happens up ahead, drivers following behind may have difficulty stopping or getting out of the way. In addition, if they do stop or try to avoid a car crash up ahead, it can end up causing vehicles behind to plow into them. Even if a driver is in the slow lane and manages to pull over to the side to avoid a car accident up ahead, there is no guarantee they are safe from being struck from behind.
Car Crashes Involving Multiple Vehicles Often Have Liability by More Than One Driver
In accidents that involve multiple drivers, it is common that more than one motorist was negligent and can be held responsible for injuries. Common types of negligence in these types of car collisions include:
- Speeding is common on highways. However, a driver who is speeding requires a longer stopping distance and can lose control of their vehicle.
- Distracted driving such as talking on the phone or texting can end up causing car crashes.
- Fatigue is comparable to drunk driving in the way the driver handles a vehicle.
- Drunk as well as drugged driving means the motorist has poor judgment, drifts in and out of the lane and changes speeds, which can lead to car collisions.
- Reckless driving not only includes excess speed but tailgating, cutting in and out of traffic and other undesirable behaviors.
