Two Injured After Suspected DUI Crash in Merced

Officials in Merced reported that two parties were recently injured after a suspected DUI crash. The incident took place shortly after 7:00 p.m. on G Street in the vicinity of Cardella Road.

Details on the Suspected DUI Crash in Merced That Left Two Injured

A preliminary report by the Merced Police Department (Merced PD) revealed that four vehicles were involved in a car accident at the intersection of Cardella Road and G Street. These included a Maserati, Honda, Lexus, and a fourth unspecified vehicle. The traffic collision reportedly occurred when a 47-year-old woman was behind the wheel of her 2022 Maserati traveling southbound on G Street. Authorities said that the Maserati driver was going over 125 mph.

As the Maserati driver was approaching the intersection, she allegedly attempted to overtake a Lexus that was headed southbound on G Street but ended up broadsiding the Lexus. The Maserati later struck another vehicle described as a Honda that was stopped at the intersection. The impact of the collision propelled both the Lexus and Maserati into a ditch near the intersection. A fourth vehicle sustained damage in the incident after it struck a wheel and a tire that reportedly came off the Maserati and was left in the road.

The Honda driver and the Lexus driver were both transported to local hospitals for treatment of unspecified injuries. Merced PD officers at the scene conducted a field sobriety test and determined that the Maserati driver was under the influence of alcohol with a BAC over twice the legal limit. The Maserati driver was arrested and booked into Merced County Jail on suspicion of felony driving under the influence, causing bodily injury. Additional information on the drunk driving accident was not immediately available.

Personal Injury Claims and Drunk Driving Accidents

Motor vehicle accident cases involving drunk drivers are particularly overwhelming because of the serious injuries and high losses that may occur, in addition to the knowledge that the incident could have been prevented altogether. To make matters worse, the crash may have involved multiple vehicles, and when there is one at-fault party, this may make the situation especially stressful since the amount of bodily injury liability coverage that the negligent driver carried must be allocated among all claimants. Fortunately, an injured party may turn to their auto insurance policy if they have uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage. This type of protection may come into play up to the limits of the policy and may help cover economic and non-economic damages.

The insurance company representing the other party will not be the only one placing obstacles in your pathway to recovery. The unfortunate reality is that your insurer may make the claims process challenging for you. That is because insurance carriers are focused on protecting their bottom line and will resort to defense tactics as a way of doing so. Retaining legal counsel immediately may make all the difference in the outcome of your personal injury case. Unlike the insurance company, your attorney will have your best interests at heart throughout the legal process and stop at nothing to obtain the fair compensation you deserve. The most crucial aspect of hiring an injury lawyer after a drunk driving accident is that your attorney will work to seek punitive damages from the negligent driver to discourage similar egregious conduct from them and others in the future. Importance of Hiring a Lawyer After a Car Accident

Waiting to contact an attorney after a car accident in Merced County may have severe consequences. One of which may include failing to file the case in civil court within the statute of limitations applicable to the matter. Under the California Code of Civil Procedure Section 335.1, a case must be filed within two years of the accident date if an insurance settlement is not accepted within that time frame. Since the filing deadline may be reduced to as little as 180 days in cases involving government entities, it is essential to reach out to a Merced personal injury lawyer immediately. At our law firm, we offer free case evaluations, so do not hesitate to contact us today.
