Two Injured in Single-Vehicle Accident in Modesto

The Modesto Police Department (Modesto PD) reported that two parties were injured in a single-vehicle accident on the morning of Sunday, November 15, 2020. According to an incident summary by the Modesto Fire Department battalion chief, the collision occurred at approximately 5:30 a.m. on Salida Boulevard in the vicinity of Pelandale Avenue. Modesto Fire crews arrived at the scene to locate a car that had crashed into a concrete barricade. The summary stated that two parties suffered serious injuries and were transported by ambulance to a local hospital, with fire crews rendering patient care on the route. No word yet on what may have caused the Modesto car accident, but officials said there were areas of dense fog that early morning.

Top Causes of Single-Vehicle Car Accidents in Modesto

A single-vehicle accident often happens in Modesto and elsewhere in California. Although only one car is involved, that does not necessarily mean that the driver is always at fault for the incident. If you or a loved one were hurt in a single-vehicle car crash that was not your fault, you may be entitled to recovery of economic and non-economic damages from the at-fault party. By proving that another party or entity was responsible for the crash, you may be able to recover monetary damages for past and future medical expenses, lost wages, loss of future earning capacity, and pain and suffering. Examples of single-vehicle accidents where others may be held financially accountable for injuries and losses incurred include:

  • Defective Vehicle Parts and Equipment: Among the most common causes of single-car crashes are those involving defective car parts. Examples may include tire blowouts and faulty brakes. Our Modesto car accident law firm has decades of experience representing those hurt by vehicle defects through auto products liability claims against negligent automakers and manufacturers.
  • Road Defects: Road debris, poorly designed and maintained roadways, and defective traffic signs and signals are roadway hazards commonly attributed to single-vehicle car collisions. In such cases, a personal injury case may be brought against the government entity responsible for the upkeep of the road. Keep in mind that the statute of limitations, or the time limit to bring a personal injury claim against a government entity, is shortened from two years to six months under the California Government Code Section 911.2.
  • Other Drivers: The actions of other motorists on the road may lead to single-vehicle crashes as drivers may lose control to avoid accidents. Common factors include reckless driving, unsafe lane changes, excessive speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs (DUI), distracted driving, and more. Careless drivers are often the cause of run-off-road accidents.

Depending on the facts and circumstances of the car accident, a personal injury claim may be brought on behalf of the driver, passengers, or other parties hurt in the incident.
