Sacramento, Elk Grove Residents Killed in Vacaville Car Crash
Two young women were killed after a car crash that took place in Vacaville on Monday, June 1, 2020. Information from California Highway Patrol (CHP) indicates that the accident occurred as the result of a high-speed chase on Highway Interstate 80 and involved a single vehicle. The vehicle driver, a 21-year-old man, has been arrested on charges related to the accident and remains in the custody of the Solano County jail. The Solano County Coroner’s Office has identified the decedents as 19-year-old Alazae Jeffrey of Elk Grove and 21-year-old Jaiah Metcalf of Sacramento. Crash Details
The accident happened in the morning after police engaged a vehicle in a high-speed chase on the eastbound side of Highway Interstate 80. Police say that vehicle attempted to evade officers by exiting the highway but crashed near an AM-PM store located on the 1400 block of Alamo Drive. Further information about the circumstances of the accident was not immediately available.
Response and Arrest
Police arriving at the accident scene discovered that the two young women had been critically injured. Tragically, both were pronounced deceased on-site. The driver was discovered with injuries and was treated at a local hospital before being released into police custody. The driver currently faces charges that include two gross vehicular manslaughter counts, one count of driving under the influence leading to bodily injury, and one count of evading officers resulting in death or serious injury. The man’s bail was reportedly set at $183,333.
