Two Modesto Residents Killed in Fatal Car Accident
Two residents of Modesto were killed in a fatal car accident that involved five vehicles on Claribel Road and McHenry Avenue on the night of Tuesday, November 17, 2020. At approximately 7:00 p.m., a driver of a Nissan Altima, identified as a 27-year-old man, was headed northbound on McHenry Avenue with a passenger. The Nissan driver reportedly ran a red light at the intersection with Claribel Road. A 46-year-old Salida woman was driving a Lexus SUV westbound toward the intersection and broadsided the passenger side of the Nissan. Both drivers were hospitalized for serious injuries. Sadly, the Nissan driver succumbed to his injuries during hospitalization, and his passenger passed away at the crash scene. The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office has identified the passenger as 34-year-old Krystal Mobley of Modesto.
Investigation of the Modesto Fatal Car Accident
Following the initial collision between the Lexus and the Nissan, the Nissan continued for a short time westbound while the Lexus headed in a northwesterly direction toward three cars stopped at a red light along the southbound lanes of McHenry Avenue. A Kia sedan and a Dodge pickup truck next to it were both struck by the Lexus. In the next lane over, a Toyota sedan was struck by the Dodge due to the impact. The three vehicles involved in the second traffic collision, however, none of the parties, including two minors, were hurt. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that it was raining and dark when the motor vehicle accident occurred. CHP traffic investigators have not yet determined whether drugs or alcohol, weather, or speed played as factors in the fatal Modesto car accident.
