Two Motor Vehicle Accidents on Hwy 101 in Camarillo
I’m Ed Smith, a Ventura car accident lawyer. There were two accidents along southbound U.S. Route 101 in Ventura County in Camarillo the morning of June 6. One of the accidents resulted in an injury. The California Highway Patrol was in charge of investigating both accidents.
Information on the First Accident
The first accident occurred when a pickup and box truck collided along the highway off Dawson Drive before 8:00 in the morning. The pickup was heavily damaged on the driver’s side, according to a representative of the fire department for Ventura County. Of the two persons in the smaller truck, one was uninjured, and the other had to be taken to a hospital for medical treatment. The person driving the other vehicle was uninjured, and the truck did not receive heavy damage.
Second Accident
A second crash, described as minor, was reported along Central Avenue in Camarillo. Two vehicles were involved. According to a spokesperson for the CHP, no injuries were reported.
Because of the two accidents, traffic was reported as slowed while commuters were going to work.
Cost of Car Accidents in the United States
According to the National Highway Traffic Administration, motor vehicle accidents in the U.S. cost $891 billion in financial costs and social harm in 2010. This comes out to about $900 per person. Areas included in these statistics were medical costs, lost earnings, property damage, lost wages, vocational rehabilitation and losses in household activities. Other areas included in the statistics were for pain, administrative costs, life quality and legal costs. When a person has been injured or has lost a loved one due to another driver’s negligence or other cause, he or she may face costs associated with the accident. That’s when consulting a car accident attorney can help.
Some Causes of Car Accidents Are Preventable
The overall cost, excluding the emotional loss families face every year when loved ones are killed, substantiates the need for various safety programs. The main driver behaviors causing about 56 percent of these economic losses and nearly 63 percent of social harm are:
- Drunk driving
- Speeding
- Distracted driving
