Roseville Safety Updates
The City of Roseville has a couple of new safety projects in the pipeline. One of them will help walkers and bikers safely reach their destinations. The other will broadcast crucial traffic and safety information to vehicle commuters.
A Safer Bike and Pedestrian Route
Soon, there will be a new and improved crossing for pedestrians and cyclists installed at the intersection of Payson/Octave Avenue and Westbrook Boulevard. The upgraded crossing will give commuters a more direct connection for users of the city’s trail system as they travel across Westbrook Boulevard. The improvements will also positively affect routes taken by students that walk and bike to nearby neighborhood schools.
The impending upgrades will include:
- A new traffic signal device.
- A wide crosswalk that will be painted green for increased safety and visibility.
- Separate and distinct push buttons that will trigger the signal to allow more crossing time for walkers and less time for those traveling by bicycle.
- A rail for cyclists to lean on as they are waiting for a green light so that they do not have to dismount their bicycle.
The project will be similar to one that was completed in 2019, located at the intersection of Park Regency Drive and Junction Boulevard.
Pleasant Grove Boulevard Getting Digital Sign
A new digital sign will soon be installed in order to communicate important traffic and safety bulletins on Pleasant Grove Boulevard westbound between Highway 65 and Roseville Parkway. This new sign will join 11 others that line some of Roseville’s largest roads as part of the city’s intelligent transportation system.
New Roseville Safety Projects – Cost and Schedule
The cost of the two improvement projects totals over $965,000. The funds will come from the Traffic Mitigation Fund. The projects will not use any part of the General Money Fund nor any City of Roseville Measure B monies.
Construction on the two projects is scheduled to start on Monday, February 22, 2021, and should be completed sometime after spring. The schedule is subject to change on the basis of material availability, weather conditions, and other unpredictable or unforeseen circumstances.
The City of Roseville would like to remind travelers to be alert and use caution as they travel through the designated construction zones. Any questions or comments about these or any other infrastructure improvement projects should be directed to Roseville Public Works via email or telephone at (916) 746-1300.
