Pedestrians Hit in North Highlands Intersection
Major injuries were suffered by two pedestrians on March 21 in North Highlands when they were struck by a motor vehicle. According to the police report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP), a male and female were struck at the intersection of Watt Avenue and Bainbridge Drive around 7:07 in the evening. At least one of the pedestrians was found in the roadway, and both were unconscious. Emergency responders with the Sacramento Fire Department transported both to a hospital for treatment. The vehicle that struck the walkers was a black Acura. The roadway was blocked to traffic as investigators determined how the collision occurred.
Major Injuries in an Accident
When someone suffers major injuries in an accident, they may face extensive hospitalization, doctors’ bills, medical testing costs, and a long time off work. This is in addition to their pain and suffering. If a negligent motorist caused those major injuries, the injured person may place a claim for personal injury damages with the help of an experienced lawyer. One of the reasons I became a personal injury lawyer because I saw how unfair it was for someone injured through negligence to not only have to suffer the pain of an injury but face a potentially high financial cost as well. I am honored to have helped many people recover damages over the years, and I may be able to help you as well. Some major injuries that occur in pedestrian accidents include:
- Broken bones: Most broken bones heal in about six weeks. Others may be major injuries when the bone protrudes or is crushed.
- Traumatic brain injury: These can be either minor or major injuries from concussion to bleeding in the brain.
- Spinal cord and back injuries: Spinal cord trauma is often serious and results in complete or partial paralysis. Back injuries can affect the vertebrae causing a slipped or ruptured disc, and muscle, ligament and nerve damage can occur.
- Abdominal trauma: Internal bleeding or organ damage are serious injuries that require emergency surgery to make repairs.
- Upper chest trauma: Broken ribs can result in a punctured lung. Damage to the heart can also occur.
What a Lawyer Does to Prove a Case
At AutoAccident.com, we work hard to obtain the compensation you deserve. Our investigators head to the accident site immediately to begin collecting evidence to support your case. They look for nearby traffic and business surveillance cameras that may have filmed the accident. The investigators check the police report for mistakes and talk to any witnesses. Accident reconstruction is performed, which is valuable when dealing with the insurance company or building a strong case for court. In addition, they seek evidence on the roadways such as tire marks and debris from the accident, which can provide valuable information.
Poor Road Maintenance Can Lead to an Accident
Road maintenance is important too since a malfunctioning traffic light, blurred lane lines, or overgrown foliage may cause an accident. If road maintenance contributed to or caused an accident, the government entity in charge may be held responsible. When all the evidence has been compiled, our lawyers use it to construct a strong case in favor of our client and against the at-fault party. Whether dealing on your behalf with the insurance company or preparing to go to court, my office has a high record of winning cases.
