Two Individuals Fatally Injured in Placerville Auto Accident
On Saturday, February 27, 2021, two people tragically passed away after suffering injuries during a Placerville rollover accident. The decedents have been identified as a 47-year-old Sacramento man, Michael W. Cranfill II, and 57-year-old Carmichael man, James M. Biggane. The two were reportedly both occupants of the same vehicle, and California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that no other cars or people were involved in this terrible accident.
Crash Details
CHP traffic officers stated that the accident happened at approximately 10:48 p.m. on Highway 50 in the area of Placerville Drive. Cranfill was driving a Nissan XEV6 heading west on the highway at an unknown speed when his vehicle approached a left-hand curve. As it entered the curve, the Nissan veered to the right for unknown reasons and eventually drove off-road.
As it exited the highway, The Nissan crashed into a dirt embankment between the Placerville Drive on-ramp and westbound 50. After striking the embankment, the Nissan overturned and rolled multiple times, eventually coming to a stop on the on-ramp facing oncoming traffic.
Response to Placerville Auto Accident
Officers arriving at the accident site discovered that Cranfill had been partially ejected from the car during the rollover and that both men had sustained critical injuries. Cranfill was tragically pronounced deceased on-site at 11:37 p.m. while Biggane was rushed to the Sutter Roseville Medical Center for emergency care. Sadly, Biggane passed away the next morning at 7:38 a.m. while in hospital care.
Investigation
The cause of this crash is currently the subject of CHP investigations, and officers haven’t indicated what causes, if any, they believe could have been involved. In many cases, accidents like this one involve a number of factors and might have been caused by things outside of driver influence. Causes that drivers do not have influence over include defective car parts, issues with poorly maintained roads, and more.
In the case of rollover collisions especially, auto manufacturers are often considered negligent because of weak vehicle roofs. However, in order to prove that this was the case, you need to preserve the totaled vehicle to use as evidence for your claim.
Furthermore, police can have a hard time uncovering all of the relevant evidence if they aren’t able to interview accident survivors about what took place. In these situations, it’s important to work with a Placerville wrongful death lawyer that has the ability to investigate the incident themselves. Doing so will ensure that an experienced professional is doing everything they can to protect your family’s right to compensation during investigations.
