Accident Near Greenback Lane Off-Ramp Occurs Between Two Vehicles
A complaint of pain sent one person to the hospital recently following a two-vehicle accident in Foothill Farms. The accident happened around 3:34 p.m. along eastbound I-80 at the Greenback Lane off-ramp. The traffic accident report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) stated that the crash involved a Nissan Pathfinder SUV and a diesel pickup truck that carried a woman and child.
Injury Reported in Freeway Accident
The accident happened in lane three, but the vehicles were quickly moved to the center divider, out of the way of traffic. One individual was transported to Kaiser Roseville Medical Center with back and neck pain. The accident is being investigated by police to determine fault and how the collision occurred.
Obtaining Injury Compensation Following a Two-Vehicle Accident
When an accident occurs between two vehicles, the injured party may place a claim for compensation against the driver who was negligent. However, because this negligent driver often denies their fault, an injury lawyer can help by gathering the evidence needed to support the claim for compensation. Over the years, my law firm has successfully handled many of these cases by being thorough in our search for evidence and tenacious in holding the at-fault party responsible. Some of the areas where evidence is sought include:
- The accident scene: This is an important venue for gathering evidence about a two-vehicle accident. Our investigators use accident reconstruction techniques to analyze where the vehicles were before the crash, how the impact occurred and the location of the cars after the collision. The results of this are often used in court.
- Talking to witnesses: A collision is often seen by witnesses from individuals in other vehicles to those standing along a sidewalk. Their view of the accident is essential when putting together the evidence. Some even use their cell phones to take a video.
- Surveillance videos: Many areas have surveillance cameras mounted at crosswalks and on traffic lights along with security footage at local businesses. Because the cameras are able to capture the accident in real-time, the video is a concrete form of evidence.
Reasons for a Two-Vehicle Accident
The main reason for a two-vehicle accident is human error. Some of the most frequently cited actions are:
- Distracted driving: This is one of the top reasons for auto accidents. This is when a driver takes their attention from the highway and concentrates on the radio, an accident by the side of the road or uses a cell phone.
- Drunk driving: As prominent as distractions, drunk driving causes about 10,000 deaths per year in traffic accidents. A drunk driver does not have the cognitive skills or coordination to drive safely.
- Reckless driving: Drivers who weave in and out of traffic, run red lights or speed are considered reckless drivers.
What Damages Can You Recover From an Auto Accident Lawsuit?
The purpose of a car accident lawsuit is to recover the financial cost of damages due to the at-fault party’s negligence. These include:
- Medical expenses: The lawsuit will recover all the expenses due to medical care in your recovery from the accident. This includes emergency room visits, hospital stays, X-rays, blood work, and medications. It even covers rehabilitation care and at-home treatment. The cost of trips to and from your doctor’s office is also covered.
- Lost wages: This recovers the monetary amount you would have earned had the accident not happened.
- Pain and suffering: The emotional, psychological and physical trauma the accident caused is recoverable.
- Punitive damages: This damage is one that is meant to punish the driver for egregious actions. It is not meant to compensate the injured party but to take the at-fault driver to task for their negligence. The amount of punitive damages is usually higher than the compensatory ones.
