Two Vehicles Catch Fire After Colliding at Elkhorn Boulevard Intersection
A two-vehicle crash in Rio Linda on August 19 caused both vehicles to catch fire at a busy intersection. The accident occurred at the intersection of Elkhorn Boulevard and 26th Street shortly after 4:00 in the afternoon between a pickup truck and Chevy sedan. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) traffic accident report, one of the vehicles caught fire following the two-vehicle crash, and people nearby were trying to put the blaze out.
The Second Vehicle Catches on Fire
It was then reported that the other vehicle had caught fire, and one party had been removed from it by bystanders. The pickup involved had been carrying a full load of bags filled with concrete, which spilled and mixed with water from the fire. A traffic advisory was issued to avoid the intersection while clean-up was conducted. Only minor injuries were reported in the two-vehicle crash.
Delayed Symptoms Following a Two-Vehicle Crash
At the time a two-vehicle crash occurs, those inside the vehicles are flooded with adrenaline, which can mask the symptoms of an injury. Hours, days, or even weeks later, symptoms begin, and some may indicate a serious injury. This is one of the reasons it is important to get yourself checked out by a physician or at the ER following any traffic accident. Some of the types of injuries that exhibit delayed symptoms that can appear after a traffic accident include:
- Cervical strain or sprain: This common injury is also called whiplash and happens when the neck and head whip forward and then backward in a collision. It can cause stiffness and pain in the neck, which can radiate across the shoulders and down the upper back. It also causes headaches as well as tingling and numbness in the arms. Although most cases of cervical strain or sprain heal in a few weeks, it can become a chronic condition that lasts a year or more.
- Slipped disc: When the jelly-like fluid between spinal discs leaks out after a two-vehicle crash, it can result in pain in the back or neck, which makes it difficult for the injured party to lead a normal life. If the disc shifts against a nerve, it can cause arm tingling, weakness and pain like electricity or numbness in a leg or arm.
- Concussions occur when the head is jolted or strikes against the interior of the car in a two-vehicle crash. The movement of the brain inside can result in dizziness, nausea, fatigue, problems with memory, confusion, and more.
- Symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder occur in many people after a two-vehicle crash. In some people, it becomes so severe they have to seek professional help, which is recoverable in a compensation claim. Symptoms can range from nightmares, anxiety, and depression to a fear of leaving the house, going near where the two-vehicle crash occurred, or riding in a car.
