Authorities Investigating to Determine Fault in Two-Vehicle Crash
One patient was diagnosed with major injuries and transported to a hospital nearby for additional assessment and treatment. Authorities are investigating the two-vehicle crash to find out who was at fault and how it occurred.
Negligence as the Cause of an Accident
Accidents involving two vehicles are frequent and can occur for many reasons. However, the one thing they have in common is that negligence by a driver is involved. Unfortunately, a person who is injured by a negligent driver can face high medical expenses, pain and suffering, and lost wages from being unable to work. Types of negligence can include:
- Speeding is a major reason for a two-vehicle crash. In some instances, the speeding driver can’t slow down quickly enough to avoid causing a rear-end collision. In others, the driver loses control of their vehicle, resulting in an accident.
- Running a red light or stop sign is another common cause of a two-vehicle crash. A driver who ignores a stop sign or red light can cause a T-bone collision by another motorist who is legally passing through.
- Distracted driving is the main cause of accidents these days. A driver who is chatting with passengers, talking on a cell phone or texting is not paying attention to surrounding traffic and the roadway.
- Drunk or drugged driving accounts for around 10 percent of all collisions. Someone who is under the influence of alcohol or drugs exhibits diminished reflexes, poor judgment, and other characteristics that affect their ability to drive.
Recoverable Damages Following an Injury Accident
During the many years my law firm has been in business, our legal team has helped numerous people recover personal injury damages. Some of the damages that can be recovered are:
- All medical expenses are recoverable, including ambulance fees, hospitalization, physician and specialist bills, testing, and rehabilitation. If the injury continues into the future, the expenses are factored in.
- Wages that were lost from being unable to work are recovered, including any bonuses or other perks. Again, if the injury is going to prevent the party from working in the future, that is factored in. If the injured party cannot return to their job or has to take a lower-paying position, that is included also.
- Home health care is covered if that is necessary as well as equipment or changes made to enable the person to be at their house. This can include ramps, wheelchairs, walkers, etc.
- Damages for pain and suffering is recovered. This includes loss of consortium, which is the marital relationship between spouses, emotional distress and physical pain as well as how the accident adversely affected the injured person’s life.
- Damages for any disfigurement, such as scars or amputations, are recoverable. This can include the embarrassment of the injury or humiliation as well as the cost of plastic surgery in some cases.
