Northbound Sunrise Boulevard Site of Two-Vehicle Crash

A two-vehicle crash in Fair Oaks on August 2 occurred along northbound Sunrise Boulevard. The accident was reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) at around 5:30 p.m. just south of Wildridge Drive between a Toyota Rav4 and a Toyota Land Cruiser. Although emergency responders with the Sac Metro Fire arrived at the scene to assess injuries, no report has yet been released. The accident caused the number one lane on Wildridge Drive to be blocked, and one vehicle was reported to have front-end damage.

Types of Two-Vehicle Accidents in California

In 2019, the last year for which information is available, there were 2,031 solo-vehicle accidents in California. This figure represents 56 percent of the total accidents in that year. The number of two-vehicle crashes is smaller but fraught with injuries and fatalities. Some of the leading reasons for a two-vehicle crash are:

  • Tailgating: Although tailgating can lead to multiple-vehicle collisions, especially on a highway, the majority of rear-end accidents involve two cars. The driver to the rear is usually considered to be at fault except in a few circumstances. The at-fault driver might be distracted or inebriated. However, this type of behavior is generally considered reckless. Speeding vehicles are also more likely to be involved in a rear-end collision.
  • Sideswipe accidents: A collision between two adjacent vehicles is called a sideswipe accident. They are common, especially on highways, and can cause catastrophic injuries. Drivers who are inebriated, distracted, fatigued, merging into an adjacent lane without caution, or reckless cause many two-vehicle accidents.
  • Speeding: Driving above the speed limit is a common reason for a two-vehicle accident. This frequently happens in an intersection. Drivers who are reckless, drunken, or careless are often driving too fast for conditions or beyond the speed limit. Speeding limits the driver’s ability to control their vehicle, leading to serious consequences.
  • Running a red light: This is common in an intersection where multiple vehicles, bicycles, pedestrians and motorcycles all interact. It is the complexity of intersections that leads to dangerous and often fatal two-vehicle accidents.
  • Head-on crashes: This type of two-vehicle crash is not as common as others, but when it does occur, it is likely to be fatal. That is because the impact combines the weight and speed of both vehicles. Many head-on collisions involve traumatic brain injuries
  • Broadside accidents: Often called a T-bone accident, a broadside crash commonly happens in an intersection. They occur when one driver turns left and hits another vehicle proceeding legally through the intersection. They usually happen when the left-turning driver fails to adequately judge the speed and distance of the vehicle crossing the intersection. Pelvic and femur fractures are common injuries in a broadside accident.
  • Inexperience: Drivers who are inexperienced often are involved in a two-vehicle accident.

Investigating a Two-Vehicle Crash

It is important to thoroughly investigate a two-vehicle accident. With evidence showing that the plaintiff’s injuries are due to negligence, the case will not proceed. Proving negligence is critical. Our investigators arrive at the scene of the crash as soon as possible. They use accident reconstruction techniques that show the positioning of the vehicles before, during, and after the accident. We interview witnesses and review police reports for inaccuracies. Videos from surveillance cameras are located to observe the accident in real-time. Once all evidence is found, the data is submitted to our legal team as they build a rigorous case against the defendant.
