Accident on Dayton Road Causes Injuries

A two-vehicle accident in Chico on December 7 happened on Dayton Road between Rodgers and Elk avenues at about 10:44 at night. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the two-vehicle accident occurred when a Ford Mustang and a Honda Civic collided. They said the road was blocked due to glass, and the Butte County Fire Department was also called to the site of the crash.

Damages in the Two-Vehicle Accident

Authorities said the rear axle of the Mustang was completely severed from the vehicle. A tow truck was summoned to remove the Mustang from the scene. The Honda Civic sustained front-end damage, and an additional tow truck was requested.

Minor injuries have been reported to passengers at the time of this report. Updates will be announced as the CHP continues to investigate the crash. There have been no reports of drug or alcohol impairment associated with the incident.

Two-Vehicle Accidents

Two-vehicle accidents, from rear-end collisions to broadside crashes, happen frequently. Some of the most common are:

  • Rear-end collisions: This type of accident occurs on both urban streets and highways. The degree of damage is related to the speed of impact as well as the type of vehicle involved in the crash. For instance, a slow-moving passenger car will cause less serious injury than one traveling at highway speeds. When a larger vehicle such as a big rig strikes the rear of another motor vehicle, the momentum of the truck usually causes an override accident. Alternately, when a passenger vehicle rear-ends a large truck, the smaller vehicle often passes under the big rig, causing serious damage and injuries. Injuries range from a cervical sprain, often referred to as whiplash, to fatal ones. The vehicle to the rear frequently is liable for the damages.
  • Broadside crashes: This type of accident often happens when a distracted or drunk driver illegally moves through an intersection, often running a red light. The injuries associated with a broadside accident are serious since few safety devices are typically installed on the side of the vehicle. Injuries associated with a T-bone accident are pelvic and femur fractures as well as traumatic brain injuries. All three require medical and surgical intervention and long rehabilitation periods. Liability is leveraged against the driver who causes the broadside crash.
  • Head-on collisions: Head-on collisions are rare but result in catastrophic injuries or fatalities when they do happen. The reason for this is that the impact is a combination of the momentum of both vehicles. Drivers who are inebriated or distracted are most likely to cause a head-on collision. About 18 percent of all fatal traffic accidents are head-on collisions.
  • Rollover accidents: Rollovers are often due to speeding. One of the most common rollover accidents occurs when a driver takes a curve at a high speed. However, this is not always intentional since some places do not put up warning signs to tell drivers a curve is just ahead. In this case, the government agency in charge of road maintenance, including signage, could be considered liable for the damages. It is important to remember that claims against the government have a much shorter period in which to file. Your injury lawyer ensures that all documents are filed in a timely manner. Roof crush is another aspect of a rollover accident. Manufacturers are obligated to provide an infrastructure that supports the roof during a rollover. If it is absent, the roof will crash down on the occupants, causing serious injuries or death. When this happens, the manufacturer can be held liable for the damages.
