GMC Pickup and Ford Fiesta Collide in Exit Ramp Traffic Collision
A rear-end exit ramp traffic collision caused one injury along Interstate 80 in Sacramento on April 1. The accident, which involved a GMC Sierra pickup and a Ford Fiesta, occurred around 3:24 in the afternoon on the exit ramp for Longview Drive, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) report. One of those involved in the collision complained of pain, and responders with the Sacramento Fire Department arrived to assess injuries. An investigation into the cause of the traffic collision is being conducted by the CHP to place fault and determine how it happened.
Causes of an Exit Ramp Traffic Collision
Accidents commonly happen on exit and on-ramps. Part of the problem is that drivers enter the ramps too fast and are unable to control their vehicles. Aside from speed, some drivers repeatedly change lanes or turn without warning, causing accidents.
While driver error is the main culprit, some ramps are poorly designed and fail to allow drivers to maneuver. Poorly marked exits are another issue since many drivers are unfamiliar with the area. The government entity charged with maintenance and design can be held responsible after an accident.
Rear-end accidents occur when the lead driver slows down suddenly. The driver should begin to slow down from highway speeds before they enter the ramp. This allows them to merge with the existing traffic without interfering with other drivers.
Tips for Drivers Using Ramps
Drivers should keep the following in mind when using highway ramps:
- Speed: Drivers should be prepared when they are about to enter an exit ramp and slow down. They might encounter a traffic light to control vehicle movement too. Speeding can cause a rear-end collision.
- Pay attention: Drivers need to pay attention to traffic on the ramp as they enter. It is important to remember that heavy traffic can result in sudden changes and cause stop and go patterns.
- Don’t assume what another driver is going to do: Some drivers attempt to change lanes when on an exit ramp. If another motorist doesn’t notice, it can end up causing a rear-end traffic collision or sideswipe.
- Be extra cautious during rainy or other inclement weather: Slick roads can cause a rear-end collision because the driver is unable to stop.
Investigating an Accident
To obtain compensation following an accident, it must be proved that the other driver was negligent. At my law firm, we work hard to find the evidence needed to support your case. We send out investigators to the rear-end traffic collision site to talk to the witnesses and check for mistakes in the police report. Accident reconstruction is an important part of the evidence used with insurance companies and in court. This is because it shows how the collision occurred. The investigators look for cameras mounted on traffic lights and businesses in the area that might have caught the rear-end collision on tape.
Our lawyers take this gathered evidence and use it to build a strong case in favor of our client. It is useful in dealing on the client’s behalf with the insurance company. If negotiations with the insurance company are not successful in getting our clients the compensation they deserve, the evidence can be used in court.
