Ukiah Collision Hospitalizes Man
I’m Ed Smith, a Ukiah car accident lawyer. On Monday, June 20, 2017, a car accident in Ukiah left a local man with serious injuries and prompted an airlift evacuation. The details of the car accident can be found below.
What Happened?
According to reports from the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the car accident occurred at about 8:50 a.m. on State Route 123 when a 46-year-old male resident of Fort Bragg was driving a 2012 Ford utility pickup truck west along the highway. According to CHP, the driver of the Ford slowed down in order to observe a car accident that had happened earlier in the morning. Reportedly, the man was inspecting the accident to see if anybody needed help.
While this was happening, a 29-year-old male resident of Philo had been traveling behind the Ford in a 1981 Volkswagen pickup truck at around 50 mph, based on a statement from a witness to the collision. CHP indicated that the when the Ford slowed down, the driver of the Volkswagen failed to notice and did not reduce his speed. Consequently, the Volkswagen rear-ended the Ford and ended up partially trapped beneath the larger truck.
Injuries and Response
When emergency first responders got to the scene of the collision, they found that the driver of the Volkswagen had sustained major injuries. Medics decided that his injuries were critical and called an air ambulance in to transport the injured man to the Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.
The driver of the Ford was not injured as a result of the collision and was able to safely drive away from the scene of the crash. Officials from the Anderson Valley Fire Department, CHP, The Anderson Valley Ambulance, CalTrans, REACH Air Ambulance, and Medstar Ambulance all responded to the incident.
Another Recent Ukiah Accident
This accident has happened in the wake of a few other injury collisions in Ukiah. One such collision occurred on Monday, June 5, 2017, when a rollover accident sent three individuals to the hospital. Reportedly, a blue Ford Focus rear-ended a white pickup truck, causing the truck to overturn and roll off of the highway.
Emergency responders found that three individuals had been involved in the crash including both drivers and a passenger in the pickup truck. All three were taken to a hospital for treatment of their injuries. CHP did report that none of their injuries were life-threatening.
