Ukiah Woman Seriously Injured During Auto Accident
Authorities reported that a Ukiah woman suffered major injuries during an area car accident that took place on Monday, June 3, 2019. The accident involved two vehicles and took place during the early evening. Police stated that one other individual suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash. The latest information available indicated that the injured woman was still in the hospital and updates on her condition have not been provided. California Highway Patrol (CHP) has indicated that they are actively investigating this accident in order to determine what factors may have contributed to the collision.
Crash Details
According to reports, the wreck took place at about 7:20 p.m. A 1994 Nissan Pathfinder was driving northbound on US-101 approaching mile marker 66. For reasons that are not currently understood, the vehicle drifted to the right, eventually driving off of the road. After exiting the road, the vehicle drove down an embankment and struck a nearby utility pole. The pole was broken by the accident and fell down onto the highway. Around twenty minutes later, a 2008 Ford pickup truck driving north on Highway 101 crashed into the downed telephone line.
Response
City Ambulance, Reach Air, CHP, and the Laytonville Volunteer Fire Department all assisted in responding to this accident. When emergency responders arrived at the crash scene, they discovered that the woman seated in the front passenger seat of the Nissan had suffered major trauma. Responders called for a helicopter ambulance to transport the injured woman to the Santa Rosa Medical Center to receive emergency medical treatment.
The driver of the Nissan was found with minor injuries and responders had him transported by ground ambulance to the Howard Memorial Hospital. The driver of the Ford was reportedly not injured during the incident and drove his vehicle away from the scene of the crash.
Investigation
Highway 101 was closed to traffic at the location of the crash for around two hours while responders attended to survivors and workers the downed power line from the road. During this time, CHP investigators conducted a preliminary investigation of evidence available at the collision scene. While CHP’s investigation into this accident is ongoing, no suspected factors have been reported so far. According to police, neither drugs nor alcohol are suspected to have been involved.
