Two Hospitalized after USPS Collision
Reports from Cal Fire indicate that two people were sent to the hospital following a car accident in Gridley on Tuesday, June 11, 2019. According to police, the crash involved two vehicles, including a USPS mail truck. At least one of the injured individuals suffered severe trauma. Updates on the injured parties’ conditions have not yet been made available. Local authorities are actively investigating possible causal factors of the accident.
Crash Information
Officials indicated that the accident took place shortly after 11:00 a.m. on Gilstrap Avenue. While specific details about how the collision occurred remain unavailable, photos of the accident show damage to the rear-end of a pickup truck. The pickup was apparently knocked off the roadway by the impact of the accident, coming to a stop partially submerged in a nearby puddle. The postal truck came to rest upright on a nearby grassy field. Whether or not the USPS vehicle sustained significant damage is currently unclear.
According to officials, responders from Cal Fire’s Butte County unit were sent to the accident scene directly after the collision was reported. When responders reached the collision site, they found that two people had suffered moderate to severe injuries. One of the injured people was placed on an EMS ground ambulance and driven to a local hospital. Responders called for a Reach helicopter ambulance to take the other injured individual to a larger area hospital for emergency medical procedures.
Investigation
As authorities investigate this collision, no suspected accident factors have been mentioned. Collisions involving multiple vehicles can be caused by a wide variety of factors.
