Vacaville Fatal Motorcycle Crash
I’m Ed Smith, a Vacaville wrongful death lawyer. An early morning motorcycle collision left one individual dead and closed multiple residential streets on Friday, January 19, 2018. We send our condolences to the family and friends of the individual who lost his life in this tragic crash. We extend our hopes for a full recovery to the other party injured in this collision.
Accident Info
According to reports from officers of the Vacaville Police Department (VPD), the crash occurred at around 3:25 a.m. Officers initially said that they were responding to a “serious traffic collision” at the intersection of Rocky Hill Road and Markham Avenue.
A press release indicated that an area officer saw a motorcyclist traveling at a high rate of speed and began to follow them. The officer later found that the motorcycle had crashed into a parked SUV. The driver, identified as Jose Anaya, a 22-year-old resident of Vacaville, was underneath the parked vehicle while the passenger, an unidentified 24-year-old Vacaville woman, was found nearby after she apparently fell off of the motorcycle.
Injuries and Response
The responding officer found Anaya with life-threatening injuries and reported that Anaya had stopped breathing by the time he arrived. The officer performed live-saving maneuvers on Anaya while waiting for paramedics to arrive. Sadly, despite the officer’s efforts, Anaya was later declared dead and the accident scene.
The passenger was found conscious and alert but had sustained serious injuries. The passenger was soon transported to a nearby hospital to receive medical attention. Medical officials stated that the woman was in stable condition.
Investigation
The intersection of Rocky Hill and Markham was shut down for around three and a half hours during the time that officers were conducting a preliminary investigation. The VPD Traffic Section said that Anaya had been driving northbound on Markham before the accident at an unknown speed.
Anaya reportedly sideswiped two vehicles south of Rocky Hill Road. This collision caused the passenger to be thrown from the motorcycle. After this initial collision, Anaya continued north until colliding with the SUV.
Police also added that alcohol and speed may have been primary factors in this tragic crash.
