Vacaville Highway Hit-and-Run Kills Pedestrian
Officers from the Solano area California Highway Patrol (CHP) have stated that one person lost their life in a recent Vacaville accident. The accident took place on Sunday, February 10, 2019, and involved a vehicle and a pedestrian on a local highway. Police say the vehicle left the scene of the crash. The Solano County Sheriff’s Department has not yet released the identity of the fatally injured man. Officials say his identity will be released after his next-of-kin is notified about the incident. I would like to offer my sympathies to the family and friends of the man who tragically lost his life because of this crash.
Accident Information
Officers say that the crash happened in the early morning at about 5:10 a.m. on Highway Interstate 80. A pedestrian had been crossing the highway to the west of Weber Road when he was struck by an oncoming vehicle. Reports state that the pedestrian was struck inside of the No. 3 lane. The car appears to have immediately left the scene of the accident. Officers reportedly have not been able to obtain a description of the vehicle. No further details about this accident have not been made available.
Investigation
CHP officers are conducting an investigation into this crash in hopes of finding the missing vehicle and driver. Investigators have asked for public help from possible accident witnesses or anyone who has information about the crash. Those with information should call either (707) 328-2100 or (800) 835-5247. CHP stated that any information would be greatly appreciated.
Hit-and-Run and Wrongful Death
After a fatal accident, the loved ones of the decedent can face serious financial issues such as medical expenses, lost income, and more. Usually, a liable party such as a reckless driver or the manufacturer of a faulty car part can be held responsible for the accident and families can recover their damages by filing a wrongful death case. However, with hit-and-run accidents, people are often unsure of what they should do because the at-fault party can’t be found.
While this situation can be stressful, people affected by fatal hit-and-runs do have options. In many cases, the negligent driver is found and is held responsible for both causing fatal harm and leaving the scene of a crash. In cases where the driver can not be located, people can often claim recompense through insurance. This can be done through “uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage” which is an optional part of insurance policies. The amount that these policies pay out will vary depending on the specific policy.
Calling an Attorney
After finding out that your loved one has died in a car accident, it can be difficult to handle the challenges of everyday life while dealing with the process of grieving. I have helped many people who’ve lost loved ones, and I know how deeply grief can affect people’s’ lives. While it is important to spend time healing emotionally, you shouldn’t delay calling an attorney to see what your legal options are. Negligent parties and insurance companies are often quick to defend themselves and having a lawyer on your side right away can be a vital part of recovering the funds you deserve.
