Vallejo Accident Statistics

I’m Ed Smith, a Vallejo car accident lawyer. Vallejo is an often overlooked city with a vibrant community, many flourishing local businesses, and easy access to the metropolitan Bay Area. However, Vallejo also has its fair share of motor vehicle collisions. Those who spend time in Vallejo may be interested in the car accident statistics included below.

Types of Accidents

According to information gathered by researchers at the University of California at Berkeley, the most common type of injury-causing car accident in Vallejo over the past four years was rear-end accidents. Data shows that rear-end collisions accounted for 28 percent of all injury accidents. The next most common type of accident was broadside accidents, which made up 25 percent of overall injury accidents. After this, the frequency drops off significantly. From most frequent to least frequent, hit object, sideswipe, head-on, and pedestrian accidents followed broadside accidents at about 12, 10, 8, and 7 percent respectively

Collision Severity and Injuries

Of the total 2033 injury accidents that occurred in Vallejo from 2013-2016, about 1.5 percent involved a fatality. About seven percent involved severe traumatic injuries, 21.5 percent involved visible injuries, and almost seventy percent involved only a complaint of pain from one of the people involved in the collisions.

Common Injury-Causing Violations

An accident is not always caused by a traffic violation. However, traffic violations can and do significantly increase the risk of injury collisions. In Vallejo, the most common accident-causing violation of the past four years was driving over the speed limit, which accounted for 29.3 percent of all injury-causing violations.

After speeding, improper turning was the most common and accounted for 18.3 percent of injury-causing violations. The five most common in order from most frequent to least frequent after improper turning were automobile right-of-way-violations at 14 percent, traffic sign violations at 9.5 percent, DUI at 7.1 percent, unsafe lane changing at 4.1 percent, and pedestrian violations at 3.2 percent.

Common Injury Collision Conditions

The circumstances under which collisions cause traumatic injury vary but there are some conditions under which injury accidents have happened more often in Vallejo. For instance, 66.6 percent of injury accidents occurred during daylight hours, while only 25.2 percent occurred at night under street lights.

Additionally, Friday was the day in which injury accidents happened most frequently in Vallejo. Friday accidents made up 17 percent of all injury accidents and Saturday followed at 14.3 percent.
