Vallejo Fatality Highway Hit-and-Run
I’m Ed Smith, a Vallejo personal injury lawyer. A Vallejo man lost his life after being involved in a hit-and-run accident following a car crash. The two accidents happened just before 11:30 p.m. on Friday, April 20, 2018. The fatally injured man was identified as 23-year-old Jahquese Lewis. My heartfelt sympathy is extended to Lewis’ bereaved loved ones as they mourn the loss of their family member and friend.
Initial Crash
CHP Officer David Harvey reported that Lewis was driving his Honda sedan west on Highway 780 east of the Glen Cove area when the accident occurred. Harvey stated that Lewis was trying to pass a semi truck when his car collided with it. After the Honda and truck collided, the trucker pulled over to the right-hand highway shoulder. Lewis’ car reportedly came to a stop in the middle of the highway’s center divider. According to a police report, Lewis exited his Honda and helped his injured passenger out to safety on the highway shoulder. The injured passenger was then put in another vehicle and taken to the hospital.
Hit-and-Run Crash
After helping the passenger, police said Lewis crossed the highway again and was walking toward the center divider when a third vehicle struck Lewis inside of the highway’s westbound fast lane. The car that hit Lewis then drove away from the accident scene.
Response and Injuries
Medical officials, who were at the crash scene, reported that Lewis suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. The passenger, who Lewis heroically helped out of the wrecked Honda, suffered serious injuries in the crash between the Honda and the big rig.
A Streak of Crashes
The two crashes that occurred on April 20, 2018, were the eighth and ninth fatal accidents in Vallejo this year. While the city has increased traffic patrols to protect pedestrians, it is unclear if these accidents will continue. According to local authorities, Vallejo has already seen more fatal crashes in 2018 than the average for most years.
