Vallejo Motorcycle Fatality Update

Monday, June 19, 2017, marks two weeks since a man was found on the side of Highway 37 near Vallejo with fatal traumatic injuries sustained in a mysterious motorcycle accident. Caltrans workers found the man in the marsh off of the side of the highway near Skaggs Island with his wrecked motorcycle nearby. Since the accident occurred, the man has been identified, California Highway Patrol (CHP) has continued their investigation, and a grieving family has called for justice.

A Loving Father and Grandfather

The fatally injured man was identified as Dailey Sparks, a 51-year-old male Vallejo resident and native. His daughter, Ariana Pratt, described the father of 10 and grandfather of 11 in an interview with a local newspaper saying that he was a very generous person. She also noted that her father had been a man with a sunny disposition who offered positivity to everyone that he met.

Something Awry

Pratt told reporters that the family initially knew something had gone wrong when he did not arrive at work on Monday morning, which was uncommon for Sparks. The family suspected something had happened and went looking for him. A member of the family had been driving along the route that Sparks would have driven to work when they came upon the crash scene.

Suspected Hit-and-Run

Officers from CHP have told the family and reporters that they can not release further information about their investigation into the incident until they receive toxicology reports from the Solano County Coroner’s Office. The results are not expected to come back for six to eight weeks. However, the family strongly suspects that Sparks was killed in a hit-and-run accident in the early hours of Sunday.

These suspicions are based on a few factors. Pratt indicated to reporters that it was unlikely that her father had been in a solo collision because he has a 20-year history of operating his motorcycle safely. The family also believes that the collision was a hit-and-run accident because the back of the motorcycle was damaged and skid marks from a car were found near the site of the motorcycle accident. Because of these and other factors, the family believes that Sparks was hit by somebody who neglected to stop and call for help.

Call to Action

CHP has requested that anybody with any information that might aid their investigation into this crash call 1-800-TELL-CHP. The family has also set up a GoFundMe campaign in hopes of hiring a private investigator to look into the incident and hopefully find the individual they believe is responsible for Sparks’ death.
