Vehicle Crash in Mendocino County Causes Major Trauma

On Thursday, September 17, 2020, multiple people suffered severe injuries during a vehicle crash in Mendocino County. California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that it took place during the evening and involved two passenger vehicles. The number of people who suffered injuries as a result of the accident was not made clear, and updates on their conditions remain unavailable. However, a medical helicopter was called into the accident site.

Collision Details

CHP reports state that the crash happened at around 6:02 p.m. on State Route 1 near Bruhel Point Road. The circumstances leading up to the collision have not been reported, however, police stated that two vehicles crashed head-on within the highway’s southbound lane. As a result of the crash, both cars were severely damaged, and a woman was ejected through the window of her vehicle.

Response

Police arrived at the scene of the accident at around 6:29 and discovered that multiple people had been critically injured. Responders called for a Reach helicopter ambulance and the injured individuals were reportedly flown to the Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital where they were given emergency medical treatment. Additionally, the Westport Fire Authority also assisted with accident response.

Investigation

CHP officials have indicated that their investigators are currently investigating possible causes of this terrible accident. However, investigators have not yet reported any likely factors. Accidents like this one can be very complicated and often involve multiple causes. Furthermore, many common accident factors aren’t under the control of involved drivers. Such non-driver causes can be things like dangerous roads or defective vehicle products.

Head-On Accidents

In head-on accidents, the momentum of both vehicles is fully transferred into the other. This means that the impact involves an extreme amount of force and, for this reason, is likely to cause major injuries. Even though most vehicles are designed to absorb the impact of these crashes, head-on accidents that take place over fifty miles per hour almost always involve critical or fatal injuries.

Recovering from a Major Injury

Car accident survivors often face very serious challenges. Recovering your health can take a long time and some people are left with permanent symptoms like chronic pain, cognition issues, or impacted mobility. Furthermore, the recovery process can be very expensive and often involves extensive medical care that can include surgeries, medications, physical therapy, and more. Altogether, these expenses can be very difficult to afford, especially if being injured has had an impact on your ability to earn an income.

Fortunately, crash survivors can reach out for help and, in many cases, are able to claim full compensation for these damages. By filing a claim against negligent parties with the help of a skilled Ukiah personal injury lawyer, it is often possible to obtain the payments you need to cover medical expenses, property damage, lost income, and much more.
