Vehicles Crash Into Restaurant in Sacramento Accident
A multiple injury accident occurred in Sacramento on September 21 when two vehicles collided and crashed into a restaurant. The Sacramento Fire Department reported that eight people suffered injuries. The accident happened at the intersection of 12th Street and I Street at about 3:00 in the afternoon. It was reported that of the eight individuals injured, three of them were inside Bangkok@12 Thai restaurant, one of whom refused assistance. In one of the vehicles, a mother and her three children were injured as well as another individual in the other car.
Additional Information About the Crash
Two people suffered moderate injuries, and the rest of the injuries were described as minor. Officials at the accident scene reported that it appeared speed might have been a factor in the multiple injury accident. It was also reported that the restaurant had recently reopened after repairing damage caused by a previous accident where a vehicle crashed into the building in March. As a result of the earlier collision, one person was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Negligence in an Accident
Negligence accounts for about 95 percent of all accidents. In order to place a claim for damages following an injury accident, four things must be shown. The first is that the individual who caused the accident had a duty of care toward the other person. In other words, they were expected to act as other law-abiding people would in the same situation. Second, the person failed in that duty of care by behaving in a negligent manner. Third, the person placing the claim must have suffered an injury, and fourth, financial loss resulted from that injury. Following are some of the ways in which negligence can cause an injury accident:
- Speeding, running through a red light or other types of reckless driving
- Texting, talking on a cell phone or other manners of distracted driving
- Fatigued driving
- Drunk drivers or those who are under the influence of illicit drugs or certain prescriptions or over-the-counter medications
- Defective auto parts such as the steering wheel, accelerator or brakes
- Ignoring the right of way of another driver, motorcycle rider, bicyclist or pedestrian
- Road defects, poor maintenance or design of a roadway, including missing signs, potholes or overgrown shrubbery
How an Attorney Helps
Those who are injured in a motor vehicle crash caused by someone else’s negligence can face time off work, high medical bills, and pain and suffering. A lawyer experienced in handling traffic accidents can help. At my law firm, we immediately send investigators to the site of the crash to search for evidence to support your claim for financial compensation. We interview witnesses and check the police report for accuracy as well as mount our own investigation. This can include accident reconstruction, obtaining video footage of the injury accident from nearby traffic cams and looking for damage to the roads such as tire marks. We compile all of this evidence to ensure we can build a strong case against the negligent party.
