Ventura Multiple Vehicle Crash Injures Three

I’m Ed Smith, a Ventura car accident lawyer. A multiple-vehicle crash close to Lake Casitas caused serious injuries on June 18. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is investigating the cause of the accident.

It is my fervent hope that those injured in the crash recover soon and fully.

What Happened?

A representative of the CHP reported that a car accident occurred along Casitas Pass Road shortly before 4:00 p.m. and involved four motor vehicles and a motorcycle. It was necessary for emergency personnel to extricate the occupant of one of the vehicles. Casitas Pass Road begins at State Route 192 and ends near the lake at Santa Ana Road. The road was closed as personnel arrived at the car accident site to help the injured, remove the vehicles from the roadway and for the investigation to begin. The roadway was reopened about two hours later.

Accident Injuries

At least three persons were injured in the multiple-vehicle crash. One was taken by helicopter to a medical center for treatment. At least two others were transported by ambulance, one to the Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara and the other to the medical center in Ventura County. No further information is available at this time as to the condition of any of the injured persons.

Multi-Vehicle Accidents

According to the California Department of Motor Vehicles, drivers must maintain a safe distance between other vehicles to allow them sufficient time to stop in an emergency and avoid a chain-reaction accident. Since lane splitting is allowed in California, it is important to keep an eye out for motorcyclists. The DMV recommends scanning the road 10 to 15 seconds ahead to avoid problems and advises looking for signals, brake lights and other evidence that a vehicle is stopping or slowing down.

Negligence in a Multiple Vehicle Crash

Determining fault in a multiple-vehicle crash can be complicated, and a percentage of fault may be assigned to multiple drivers. For example, if a driver is determined to be 20 percent at fault for an accident, he or she would still be able to collect 80 percent of the compensation awarded for the accident.

Why You Need an Attorney Experienced in Multiple Vehicle Accidents

Contacting an experienced injury lawyer who has worked on obtaining compensation for those injured in multiple-vehicle crashes can help. Numerous factors are involved in determining fault, including a police report, vehicle damage, reconstruction of an accident, witness accounts and using expert witnesses.
