Accident Near Walnut Grove Bridge Involves Two Vehicles

An injury accident occurred in Walnut Grove on April 25 when two vehicles collided. The collision occurred around 6:34 a.m. along southbound State Route 160 just south of the Walnut Grove bridge between a Chevy pickup and a sedan. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), both of the vehicles sustained broken axles in the collision and had to be towed from the scene.

Investigators Determining Fault in Injury Accident

No information was provided on how serious the injuries were in the collision but they were thought to be minor. An investigation is underway by the CHP to determine the cause of the injury accident.

Serious Two-Vehicle Injury Accident

A two-vehicle accident doesn’t necessarily result in serious injuries unless one car strikes another just right or one or both are traveling at a higher speed such as on a freeway. A traffic accident that results in not one but both vehicles sustaining broken axles tells you that the impact was violent. Some of the types of injuries that can occur include:

  • Head trauma: When two vehicles collide, it causes the heads of the people inside to snap forward and backward. In some cases, they may hit the steering wheel, dash or interior of the car, resulting in traumatic brain injuries. A TBI can require long hospitalization and extensive treatment. In some cases, it causes permanent physical and cognitive changes in the individual.
  • Bone fractures: Broken bones are common in a motor vehicle collision. However, in a head-on crash, people who see it coming sometimes brace themselves with their arms or a portion of the front of the vehicle ends up intruding on the floor space in the front seat. This can result in multiple fractures or crush injuries.
  • Spinal cord injuries: Damage to the spinal cord can occur in any accident but is reasonably common in T-bone collisions. This is because of the unnatural thrusting of the body to the side in the less protected areas of the vehicle. Paralysis may occur in a spinal cord injury, which can require life-long care and result in permanent disability.
  • Abdominal trauma: Trauma to the abdomen, caused by impact with the inside of the vehicle or the seat restraint or airbag, can result in bleeding internally or damage to the organs. These types of injuries can be life-threatening and require emergency surgical repair.

Obtaining Compensation From a Negligent Driver

When you suffer trauma in an injury accident at the hands of a negligent driver, you have the right to recover damages. Compensation can include all of your medical expenses caused by the accident as well as lost wages and damages for your pain and suffering.

Insurance Coverage Can Cover Your Medical Expenses

When smaller injuries occur and you require medical care, you can recover the cost of your treatment by using your uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage if the at-fault party has no insurance or the funds to cover it. If you do not have this coverage but a member of the family does, their insurance can pay for your medical expenses. The rates you or they pay remain unaffected.
