Watt Avenue Single Car Crash
I’m Ed Smith, a Sacramento injury lawyer. A woman was severely injured in a violent crash on the morning of Tuesday, October 4, 2016. The single-car collision took place in the vicinity of Watt and Whitney avenues in Sacramento.
What Happened?
A woman was driving on southbound Watt Avenue in her Mercedes Benz SUV. For reasons yet unclear, the woman lost control of her car and crossed over the median striking a pole. When the SUV struck the pole, the vehicle overturned and collided with a wheelchair ramp and structure in front of a facility. The SUV ended up being a total loss. The cause of the accident has not been released by authorities. The woman was transported to the hospital to be treated for her injuries. There has been no word regarding the extent of the woman’s injuries. She was alert and talking during transport to the hospital.
Sometimes a Motorist May Not Be at Fault for a Single-Car Crash
Keep in mind that a single-vehicle accident means only one vehicle was involved. All motorists are required to abide by traffic laws and be aware of their surroundings. The following is one example when a driver may not be liable in a single-car collision.
- A driver crashes into a tree and no other vehicles were involved in the crash. This is a good example of a single-car crash. It is automatically assumed that the motorist is at fault. However, the driver may have lost control due to a defect in the roadway or poor positioning of the tree by city planners. The motorist may be able to file a claim against the government entity responsible for road maintenance.
